Wow,

I've been more of a lurker around here lately than a contributor.

I just finished decorating my now 5YO!!!!!!'s birthday cake for tomorrow. I totally cheated and used boxed mixes and frostings, but she won't care. Her only requirement was that if have a flamingo princess with high heels and a tiara. :th huh? You'd never believe it, but I found a clip art of a flamingo ballerina. So, some pink candy melts, some wax paper, and a whole lotta imagination by anyone looking at it, we now have a pink flamingo in a princess dress with high heels and a tiara. I'm telling you....LOTS of IMAGINATION!!!!!! :plbb But, hey, it's bright pink which should help. I don't know what that kid as for flamingoes this year, but that's what she wanted. We totally scored at the craft store the other day with a 50% off coupon and got her a flamingo pinata! Now, the only problem is that it's supposed to rain all day today and tomorrow and I really don't want to do the pinata in the house, but I will.........

My SIL and I have been cutting, sewing, designing more puppets that we do for our craft shows. We've been making a make your own puppet kit, where we have all the parts cut out and the puppet body sewn together, so it's a quick craft where they need to supply the glue and a little bit of time. No attention span needed. We've been doing a princess, a fairy, and a knight. We have one more show before Halloween, so we came up with a witch and a vampire. Nice, cute, friendly puppets. We've also got to cut out the frog, dog, zebra, cat,. Those have been our best sellers all summer. So anyone have any ideas on what a quick puppet could be??????????? We make them out of felt, yarn, googly eyes, and sequins. We put in maybe .40/avg into these and we've been getting $5 each. We won't get rich, but they are fun.

Dehydrated a 5-gallon pail worth of pears and almost that many apples. This week, I have to get my butt in gear making applesauce. I made a quick batch of apple/pear sauce the other night, just to use up what I had in the house. I think that we've already given away 10 five gallon pails worth of apples, and most of those were off the ground. Easily on my big tree, I have that many buckets, plus the 3 smaller trees are still full. I probably have at least a 5 gallon pail of crab apples that I'm going to make into jelly and pickled apples. Plus, we've been going through any of the fallen apples and setting the good ones aside to make cider with my Dad, probably some time in October - oh yeah, that's only a week away! :ep

Finally got sick of the tomatoes, and started to dehyrdrate a bunch of them. I had to hide them from the kids, they were eating them like chips. Already tried some of them powdered and into sauces and it really ups the flavor. They smell almost spicy - which isn't something I was expecting.

I need to get into the garden to tear everything up this week, so I can get it clearned and get the garlic planted. My Dad grew a ton of it this year, and already has next year's crop in the ground. I'm hoping to start my own, but don't want to run out of time.

And, my husband totally scored from work. They were redoing the chemistry lab and getting in new equipment, so they were getting rid of some of the old tables. I told him if he could get a deal, we could use a table. Not thinking that they were going to be stainless steel. He got a 3 x 6 heavy-duty stainless steel table for $25!!!! Right now, it's set up in my kitchen to hold my jars when I do applesauce. Yippee!!! :weee

First of all, your daughter sounds like a real trip :gig You have GOT to post a picture of that cake!

Second, when I make my scarves, a lion is an easy one to do. Should be equally easy as a puppet.

Here are pictures of the latest two birthday cakes that I have muddled through - close one eye ;) , squint the other, and tilt your head and use lots of imagination! Giraffe was from 3YO's party in August and Flamingo was from today's party for 5YO.

I've done everything from a hamburger, complete with sesame seeds on the top layer and yellow, red, green frosting, to the giraffe and flamingo. One year, I did a sand castle, which was coated in crushed up graham crackers. I've gone a huge cupcake with paper folded to look like the wrapper. I've done a princess castle cake, complete with tiara. I've done a raspberry cake with raspberry frosting - amazing what my now 5YO thinks of months before her birthday! Chinese writing on the 8YO's cupcakes last year - my husband speaks and writes Chinese. Me, not so much!

I've done a butterfly complete with edible flowers, a sunflower and a dinosaur that looks a lot like Wifezillas avatar! I like being creative--maybe I will try again and sell something at the Farmers Market.

Well, my 8YO is feeling jealous, so can I make her a tractor cake for her birthday. Probably.

It's a cold rainy day. I cleaned yesterday to get ready for the birthday party. The youngest is playing with playdoh. Dog is snoring on the couch. I need to do some laundry and some dishes. Other than that, I think it's going to be a nice, relaxing, do-nothing day. Kids are getting pizza for lunch. Supper, don't know, yet. Did Indian curry Saturday night. Had Chinese last week. Maybe tacos, if I can convince my husband to stop at the store. That or maybe enchiladas. oooo - might need more tortillas, but I've got supper figured out.

Hmm, might sew today. Might take a nap when the kids do. :D Can't go pick apples for sauce, unless I want to get drenched.

Rained all day yesterday, about 2 inches worth. So, couldn't get an ark built in time to get to the apple trees, so did stuff inside, like the horrible pile of mending. :sick one pair of pants to go, but couldn't find my interfacing and butterfly cutouts to use to patch the knee.

Otherwise, the day wasn't exciting, until 7:30 when my 8YO was sliding on the wood floor and stepped on something and fell and hit her head on the corner of my stainless steel table. Luckily, no laceration but she did have a dent about 1/2" deep behind her right ear. We did end up at the ER, because after putting ice on it, her pupils weren't the same size. Wasn't busy at the ER, so we got in right away. She was acting okay, her responses were okay, and the pupils were only a little off. They didn't do the CT scan, because not enough problems. So it was just take her home and watch and give her tylenol. She had the okay to go to school today, but no phy ed the rest of the week. I need to call the Dr's office to get her in to see the regular doctor tomorrow.

Today, I'm tired. Guess being at the ER and not getting home until 10:30 does that to a person.
