BB remember that's THEIR belief, not yours. The spirit is not living on through her, you know that. Her name is a beautiful (from what I gather) religious name from the bible. That, and just that.

Very true, but I think it is a legitimate concern nonetheless.
I would like to fully understand his reasoning behind the naming.
I think that you simply ask the Lord to put his Blessing on the name, and dedicate her to him. Period

There are going to be other things spiritually that you will have to cross with this little one, as i am sure she has probably already been part of various cerimonies. You will have to ask the Lord to cover her and to dissolve any ancestral spiritual ties regardless, and claim the blood of Jesus over her...once she is in your full time care.
Until then pray that the Lord keeps her spirtually clean and safe from the native ways...and claim the blood on her on a daily basis.
It will all come together

Are these natives...as in INUIT natives...or are they Russian in Alaska? I'm confused :) In the Canadian Territories they would be Inuit or Indian. Have no experience with Alaska but assumed they are the same peoples...

Okay...did a quick history lesson...I get it. They are both. Kind of like the Catholic natives here.
Best deal is a Blessing cerimony once she is in your hands. That makes her a child of Jesus under you and your husband. No worries. Keep her name unless you really want to change it, but changing it may prove disrespectful to the Natives so best let it lie for the moment anyway and perhaps speak to your pastor about it
