12. Favorite board game? Life (The game Life, not ... you know... "life")
Woo hoo, Life! The old one ("long lost uncle leaves you shrunken head collection, pay $1500 to get rid of it") or the updated version?

Pat, very very fond of the old version
I am very fond of the old version, too. But, we have the new version...it rarely gets played! I just don't have time! maybe if I spent less time online?????

I'm not sure! I don't think it had the shrunken heads in it though. I don't remember. I haven't played in decades. (But it's still my favorite.)

What am I doing here at this forum? Looking for peace, I guess.

The most influential person in my life was my maternal grandmother, Mamaw. She is the one who taught me how to cook and sew and garden and tend chickens.

But mainly, I just want to get away. If it were just me, I'd be living in a shack in the woods, carrying water to the house in buckets.

I don't like the responsibilities that civilization thrusts upon us. I remember when I was a teenager, I wanted to marry a rich guy and live in a mansion.

Now, I'd rather be working the dirt so hard during the day that I could actually sleep at night. I'd rather be living in a cob house designed more for efficiency than entertaining.

I dunno. It's all part of my fifty year plan (which I have mentioned before.) I sat down and had a long talking-to with myself and asked me how I want my life to be going when I retire. This is what I came up with. And I didn't see any reason not to start preparing for it right now.

Yes, yes, and yes to everything you said Cassandra...I hate what society has come to and I hate what they seem to expect. I just want to be simple.

I'm afraid this journal is going to get very tedious! Not much interesting goes on around here. (We do that on purpose.)

I get up at six & get ready for work & B ready for daycare. Then we get home about twenty til six in the evening. I just realized that almost twelve hours of my every day are devoted to my job.

When I get home, I feed the chickens & collect eggs and see if there's anything of note going on in the garden (which there hasn't been much lately.)

Then, we come in and eat dinner (which John has cooked, usually.) Then we sort of goof off until bed time. B goes to bed about 7:30. John & I will stay up and watch some tv on netflix or play rockband until I can't see the screen anymore. Other times, we'll retreat to our separate corners where I will work on my websites and he will read internet news and web comics.

We do all of the cleaning up and laundry on the weekends.

Of note today, I got nine eggs. Eight of them were brown so that means all my spring chicks laid an egg today. :) A couple of the anconas didn't lay, but they are convalescing.

And with that, it's about time to get B ready for bed so John & I can hang out & relax. We are having temps in the 30's next week so we absolutely have to get the chickies all situated for the winter (and I'm going to claim my future asparagus bed.)

OH an asparagus bed! I want to mark out an asparagus bed, too, but not sure where DH would let me put one. He has 100% say over where things go in our yard. I have the say in the house LOL

I have been thinking about an asparagus bed also. Never raised asparagus before and I already have so many plans for so many things DH finally just told me to slow down. Says he is planting corn and potatos next year and those are the only new things that are happening around here. :rant

There's some stuff going on right now for me to talk about!

First of all, I'm not having the greatest day. I woke up a couple of times in the night last night because my throat hurt. It was not hurting as of this morning, but my head is KILLIN' me! And I feel nauseous, too. Whatever is causing that, I hope it doesn't last long. I don't have time to be sick for sure.

In better news, my dreams are creeping up on me. I think I have mentioned elsewhere that I want to stay home. It looks like things are turning in that direction. And I don't like to talk about it, because I fear I will jinx myself, but I'm a little nervous, too! It helps a lot to verbalize things.

(dh) John is starting another round of testing in a couple of weeks. November 17, to be exact. He's going to leave on the 16th and go to Birmingham and be gone until late the following Friday night! It's been a very long time since I have had to spend a week without him. Never in the new house. I'm not going to like it!

Oh, don't get me wrong--I will enjoy him being out of the house. I just don't like sleeping by myself. :D

He has five of these training sessions and tests coming up in the next few months. He gets bonuses and a raise after each test. Once he has finished all of them, he'll have gotten $1,000 in bonuses and a $4,600 a year raise.

That would be enough... Doesn't it seem crazy that such a small amount could make the difference in me being able to stay home or not?

The thing is, I only bring home a few hundred dollars a month after I take out gas and daycare and all that. So, if he can make a few hundred extra dollars a month and I can stay home and quit buying gas and paying for daycare (which is going up next week, btw) we will break close to even. I am not one to count my chickens before they hatch. But I am almost allowing myself to get excited about it, in spite of myself.

Cassandra, I'll bet you are tingly all over. That's how I felt when I was finally able to stay at home. My DS was about 5 years old and was in child care at the time. Believe me, we crunched the numbers, too.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya. :fl

OK I won't jinx you with yippees yet. But my fingers are cross that it all works out for you.

I will save my yippees for later when it all comes about.

Hope you are not getting one of those virus things going around. Eat chocolate.....that always makes me feel batter.
