This was at my BIL's house. He used it as a dog house.
Hubby said it's about 8 x 10ish. It has a shingled top, but we had to take it off to move it. Very Heavy!

My thought is to skirt the bottom, hang a hinged door, hang some cutsy trim along the front, paint it light yellow with white trim, paint some windows (since it doesn't have any on the front) and find something to use for shutters on each side of the painted windows & put up real window boxes. We'll cut in some windows on the back for ventilation, cut a hole in the side, right where the nesting boxes will be for easier access to the eggs and cut a door for the chickys to get in and out. We have wire fencing and metal posts, but I'll need to get chicken wire to make sure the babies don't walk right thru, and across the top to keep the hawks out. whew!

any suggestions?

Thats great!! Wow, THAT was a dog house!?? How big are his dogs!? Great Danes!?? Mastiffs?? LOL
What a great chicken house that will be. Sounds like you have great ideas for it. It looks to be like 4 ft high....is there a way to make it a little taller!? Getting in there to clean it might be a pain being so short. As for the fencing...well....you probably know, baby chicks can pop right through chicken wire. I would get some welded wire, 1/4 x 1/4in and run it along the bottom. Oh, and my son lives in OKC...and right now is haveing a terrible time with coons in his coop. Bury that fencing...and in the trench with the fencing and in a trench all around the coop, lay some busted concrete blocks, or some rocks about a foot deep, to detere them darned coons from digging! I cant waite to see it finished, so cute!!!

Sturdy and functional....can't beat that with a stick! Great before pic and you must post the after.

Hey, why not cut out windows in that puppy with a reciprocating saw? Be good for ventilation and all, and you could plastic them each winter like I do mine. Then you could simply frame the hole out with plain boards, paint the boards with white paint and voila'....window trim! Cover the holes with hardware cloth, so the coonies can't climb in.

Good score! :thumbsup

While you've got the roof off, you could make it a hinged roof, so it would be easier to clean :)

Unless you are going to put the heavy shingle roof back on. That would be a pain to lift.

I got three windows for my chicken coop from Habitat for Humanity store. One was brand new, a slider, the other was a fixed window, and the third was a half circle that I installed at the top side for light. Total was $70 for all three!
