Nicole is pushing to decorate for Christmas. Too early for me.
Can't wrap my head around dragging out Christmas boxes yet..LOL

So, how early do you decorate?

Wondering when everyone starts......

Are you doing the full decorations this year?

I answered on your journal but will reiterate here. I stopped doing decorations years ago. With so few days off, I hate to spend one putting up and taking down decorations; plus, there is always some expense involved even when you think you have everything. I gave my decorations to the Goodwill years ago. It is so freeing. If I want to see tinsel and lights I can go to any store.

We have a family tradition from my grandmother....Thankdgiving evening...we put up the tree. After everyone eats till they want to pop, all outside for football..catch, or whatever. Then after dark...we put up the tree, and have coffee and deserts. If the weather cooperates...we will put up the outside stuff a week or so early...but never turn them on till Thanksgiving evening. ( well, just to check them out of course) ;) The day after Thanksgiving....its a mad dash to get the rest of the house finished. I have to say, im not very SS....or "green" when it comes to the holidays....we love to decorate!

Single mom- child in college- working a full time job, a part time job, and miscellaneous free-lance jobs. I have 1 or 2 days off each month - the other days I am usually gone from say, 8 -8; then I come home and do reports until 11 or 12. So I don't do much in terms of rolling my own. I do have a vegetable garden and some chickens but I never have time to cook the food I grow.

oh sorry - i've been in my own head for a while... that probably sounded really self indulgent
:-(

so last year, the first week of Dec and the first snowy day my hubby and i were in a very serious car accident. it demolished my truck - completely totaled. thankfully we werent hurt too bad and the good news was that b/c we were in the truck and could take the 70mph impact from that idiot.. we probably saved the lives of the two other people who also got smashed into.

the bad news was that we both spent the next 6 weeks sitting around. we could only do minimal chores, we couldnt get all our work done outside before The Big Cold hit... and then we had the financial impact.

we ended up sitting at home feeling bad. there was no holiday joy at all. then his mother showed up. with the poodles.

merry freakin' christmas, huh?

so this year is onward and upward. we're better prepared for the winter, we're giving everyone big sacks of fresh pork as presents, and hey we dont have to insure that other truck! so everyone is happy. happier.

:)

I was thinking about Christmas lights last week, you know the kind that go on the outside of your house. I picked up a couple new strands of the LED, the old lights finally died. I am very excited to see how they look. The are big colored bulbs. We used to have those tiny little white icicle kind.

Anyways, those of you who live in the country do you put up exterior lights? When I was a kid and lived in a traditional neighborhood It would get really foggy at Christmas time. The only way to tells who's house was who's was by their exterior lights. Sorry flashback!!!

If you don't have neighbors and no one can see your house do you still decorate the exterior? Just wondering.

We usually put up exterior lights the weekend after Turkey Day. The rest I kinda meander through the following week. The tree usually goes up after that. I really don't do a lot inside except for the tree and may be some candles and such.
