For us Thanksgiving is the official kick off of the Christmas season. I am the first one up, as usual , and start in on dinner preps. I turn on the *first of the season* Christmas music :thumbsup No one is allowed to play ANY Christmas music until this moment.

DH & DS usually put up the holiday lights a week or two before T-day but we do not turn them on until that night after dinner.

As I mentioned in another thread, I spend Black Friday putting way the fall decor and dragging out the Christmas stuff. :celebrate I love it!

No tree this year. :( I am going to hang about 9 pinecones attached to cranberry colored velvet ribbons all tied together at the top with a nice bow. They will be hung on the front door. Saw it in a mag and I loved it. We are going to search for pinecones this weekend.

Wreaths and swags and candles are my favorite way to decorate for Christmas.

A few years ago I converted our artificial tree in to two large decorative wall sconces. That way I can still put up all the ornaments the kids have bought over the years but I don't have to tear apart the living room :D

 Good idea WZ! For years my mom just threw a sheet over her artificial tree and put it into one of our old rooms, decorations and all!

It was a small tree but when Christmas rolled around, she would put it on a stand so when you looked into the front window (from the street) it looked huge.

I have all of my parent's ornaments and grandparent's ornaments, a wax angle from Germany, all the wonderful decorations that I love. Nobody else gets a kick out of it but me. :/

Last year I said I wasn't going to do the tree and about 2 weeks before Christmas I caved in.

I answered on your journal but will reiterate here. I stopped doing decorations years ago. With so few days off, I hate to spend one putting up and taking down decorations; plus, there is always some expense involved even when you think you have everything. I gave my decorations to the Goodwill years ago. It is so freeing. If I want to see tinsel and lights I can go to any store.
what do you do with so little time off?
Single mom- child in college- working a full time job, a part time job, and miscellaneous free-lance jobs. I have 1 or 2 days off each month - the other days I am usually gone from say, 8 -8; then I come home and do reports until 11 or 12. So I don't do much in terms of rolling my own. I do have a vegetable garden and some chickens but I never have time to cook the food I grow.
oh hell you can't win can ya?
that sounds gruelling!!!

for us i think it depends on the weather... if we ke...... last year's xmas just plan sucked so i'm hoping for better this time around.
Why did it just plain suck?
LOL

because of weather?
oh sorry - i've been in my own head for a while... that probably sounded really self indulgent
:-(

so last year, the first week of Dec and the first snowy day my hubby and i were in a very serious car accident. it demolished my truck - completely totaled. thankfully we werent hurt too bad and the good news was that b/c we were in the truck and could take the 70mph impact from that idiot.. we probably saved the lives of the two other people who also got smashed into.

the bad news was that we both spent the next 6 weeks sitting around. we could only do minimal chores, we couldnt get all our work done outside before The Big Cold hit... and then we had the financial impact.

we ended up sitting at home feeling bad. there was no holiday joy at all. then his mother showed up. with the poodles.

merry freakin' christmas, huh?

so this year is onward and upward. we're better prepared for the winter, we're giving everyone big sacks of fresh pork as presents, and hey we dont have to insure that other truck! so everyone is happy. happier.

:)
WOW WOW
yea I can see why you said that!

it hits the fan, and it sure hit for you. but you are fine and no lingering medical conditions etc. so ya gotta look back and say thanks!!

that was rough Ohio!!! this year gotta be a blast compared to that one! find all the holiday fun this year...you go for it! :)

Gina you are so right

No one barely sees my house, let alone the drivers on the main road. 3 neighbors ---2 can see good, the 3rd a guess...LOL

but yea I decorate for ME!

I used to think I did it for others to see my great decorating skills, but when I moved to no mans land, then I thought, why bother outside. Well, the answer hit, I do it for ME. Cause I like it. When I put the outside lights, each night I take a short walk up and down the road, just to enjoy them. So for me I guess..LOL
