Wow nice work 👍 you did all that with a bottle jack? Impressive... But I'm sure your feeling it.

We used these tall jacks plus 2 bottle jacks. And digging out level and flat places to place the blocks. Oh, and the cheater pipe! I dug out trenches because the handles and cheater pipe hit the ground. Poor Steve, he had to practically lay on those handles to get the Jack to click. Sometimes I pushed down on them too.

My neck, back, and knees ache just looking at those. Impressive
You got that right! My knees are screaming at me. My back is saying, Hey stupid! What’cha do THAT for???

We were pretty proud of ourselves , for not knowing what the heck we were doing. LOL

Ok this cold weather can go away now. I was standing by the wood stove twirling around like a kabob on a stick. Wife asked me what are doing? I said chasing the cold away. If you just stand there, the cold jumps to your backside. So it's best to rotate.

Nah, Steve is a skinny guy, not any taller than me. We’re just two old people that just don’t quit. I’m 66, he’s almost 70. His wife worked with my husband for many years and we all became close friends.

@CrealCritter .... if Oreo is bred and the younger one is still nursing.... when is oreo due? You have GOT TO separate them at least 60 -90 days before Oreo is due so she can dry up and produce colostrum for the new calf. And you cannot put them back together so that the new calf does not get short changed.... When we wean calves off, they do not go back into a pasture with their mothers, until after they have calved and are mothers themselves. And right now I have 2 (adults) that are sucking other cows and they are on their 2nd calf..... Both are getting a no suck flap and if that does not stop it, they will get culled. So, please, if the heifer is over a year, get her separate. She will ruin the cow's ability to produce colostrum for the calf. And this will teach her to continue to want the cow.....she has to learn that she does not have that privilege anymore.

@famerjan

Thank You so much FJ. I'll keep an eye on that sneaky calf. She's supposed to be weened and I was surprised to see it nursing. The calf is quite shy and a loner, it like to hang by itself mostly. It's most definitely grazing but doesn't graze near as long as the others before it lays down and chews it's cud.

Interested what your thoughts are on the mix breed. Quite unusual for me, since I haven't see any like it before. But then again I don't get out much either... I'm happy they aren't "crazy" and seem pretty mellow, except for when my wife rings the bell then it's like a mini stampede. They get all excited and come running from where ever they are at for livestock commodity mix 15%. We are still on a coffee can full (3 lbs) split between two gate buckets for 4 head. The calf only comes but so close and doesn't get any, maybe some scraps off the ground, that's about it, since the buckets are licked clean.

About the livestock commodity mix 15% it's inexpensive $7.99 for a 50lb bag. I was thinking about trying it on the fowl and see how they do with it. What's your take?

I appreciate you A LOT 👍 next time I'm in VA, I'm gonna contact you and take you out to dinner (break bread) and hang out with FarmerJan for a while 😎 I may need a memory upgrade first though because I'm sure you'll give me all kinds of valuable information.
