@CrealCritter .... if Oreo is bred and the younger one is still nursing.... when is oreo due? You have GOT TO separate them at least 60 -90 days before Oreo is due so she can dry up and produce colostrum for the new calf. And you cannot put them back together so that the new calf does not get short changed.... When we wean calves off, they do not go back into a pasture with their mothers, until after they have calved and are mothers themselves. And right now I have 2 (adults) that are sucking other cows and they are on their 2nd calf..... Both are getting a no suck flap and if that does not stop it, they will get culled. So, please, if the heifer is over a year, get her separate. She will ruin the cow's ability to produce colostrum for the calf. And this will teach her to continue to want the cow.....she has to learn that she does not have that privilege anymore.

Good! this is very good to know, I really need to get over to BYH's and read up

I have a young couple waiting on me to get out. LOL I’m moving as fast as I can! Just so much to do to this place, and so much stuff to move! We haven’t closed yet, so I probably have about a month. Now that containers are moved and blocked up, I have a place to put all my outside stuff, and semi outside stuff that needs cover.

I must be crazy. I’m so ready to leave my jewel of a small farm, for a small house on small acreage, perched on the side of a busy 2 lane highway. And from there, who knows?
