I woke up at 3 AM, Dogs were barking their danger bark. Went out on porch with flashlight, nothing seemed amiss. Went back to bed. Then I was wide awake. Was trying to go back to sleep when I heard Sentry snarl and snap, the “this is mine” snarl he uses over his food. Up out of bed, got boots on, flashlight and out the door. He had stolen a newborn and wasn’t letting the mom have it. Sentry was licking the lamb, snarling at the ewe to keep her away, she was making that soft throaty noise ewes use on their newborns. Lamb was struggling to breathe. I got Sentry out of there and mom took over. I picked the lamb up and it was dishrag limp. I thought it would die. Ewe wanted her baby and was licking the poor baby. Just checked and she had a second lamb, both are up and nursing. Whew! Disaster averted!

WTH is wrong with my dog?? Sentry has always been the go-to guardian for ewes giving birth. Now he claims newborns? No more staying with ewes giving birth! Haven’t confirmed it, but I think the ewe is Nora, triplet daughter of Miranda and Ringo. Cooper is father to these twins.

We don’t have those things around here!

same here, places around here called hills are only a few feet difference.

i've driven through Rocky Mountain National Park a few times (including in a snow storm in the summer when they closed the road not long after we'd already gone through the gates). it's very beautiful up there. :) not at all like here... i have pictures of us following a van where all we can see are his tire tracks and his tail lights and if he'd have driven off a cliff we'd have followed him. *kerplunk!* white knuckle driving...

the funny time though was when me and a girlfriend drove across the country to Portland OR and went by the Grand Tetons but at the time it was snowing so hard we couldn't see the mountains so we had to buy a postcard. that was also some white knuckle driving because the mountain passes were a mess and we didn't have chains on the truck. nothing like a trip across the country to know if you're compatible with someone (we already knew that we were ok :) anyways by that point). she was the closest i've come to getting married and also just by chance i said hello to her last night and asked her how her river rafting trips were this year.

Checked on ewe and lambs, it is Nora and first born lamb that Sentry was trying to steal is a ewe. Second born is a ram.
I’m tired.
Well Holy cow , I dont know what to say about the dogs, how old is Buford now?

@Grandmas Porch : we took three days to set up for a massive garage sale. No rain in sight. Nobody forecasted anything.
It drizzled last nite. Good thing hubs is a retired painter, cus he whipped out the old plastic sheeting and we covered everything.
Who said it was gonna rain? Now he wants to cancel, but I've got the ads all placed and the signs out. GRRRRR

That sounds like bad and sad news. Give Athena a gentle hug from Auntie Baymule.

Athena is 13. She's actually gone longer than most dogs do with the disease as she's had it over 4 years. Eventually it starts shutting down organs, but age is really getting to her.
