I used to have a birdhouse for Martins. I liked to watch them fly around in the afternoon. It was disappointing when we had to change out the house. The first one was wooden but it rotted out. The next one was sheet metal which we thought we were being smart but I don’t think the birds cared for the new house and the heat. We had less birds but I think there was a storm that hit South America that year. I have wondered if I couldn’t just use birdhouse gourds instead.
I would eventually like to build one or more. But I have to many irons in the fire right now. There are lots of info and plans out there.

Jesus is Lord and Christ 🙏❤️🇺🇸

We invested a lot of time and money in something that just rotted. We did get some use of it a few years though. It’s just I wonder if I couldn’t do something with 15 ounce cans fastened together somehow and have the perfect size holes cut out and sanded and maybe cover it with cool seal for protection and heat. Like make something out of junk.

i hate wasting anything but i also don't have room to store everything so in the end the best thing i can do for things like that is put it out with the other recycleables and let the trash people do something with it.

I honestly try to not get tin cans at all and just can stuff myself. Like I don’t buy my pasta sauce in cans but jars so I can reuse them but if I really want to do something I might make an exception. I do miss having a Martin house.

We always have enough bits and pieces of scrap lying around that we would use those for a bird house.

Actually I was looking out thinking we need to make a few houses this year.

We do not have any Martin's up here... we have swallows. Usually blue-green swallows and tree swallows, only super rarely the barn swallows. (Only once at my house).

The houses I have put up for them... well... over the years the trees keep growing.. the swallows like a full south exposure on their nest, and an open flight path.

Some of my boxes need to be moved... and the one on the barn, the front panel is dangling by on screw....

We have a couple months... but I need to remember to get that done...
