So, I had my eye dr this morning, and wasn't that fun! There's nothing I enjoy more than having a cute man drop burning liquid directly onto my eyeballs, come back in five minutes and burn out my eyes with the flames of the sun!!! :barnie :barnie :hit :hit :hit :smack
Dilation sucks :p However, I now have contacts, they feel better than the last set, and those were pretty good, so yay! :weee :weee :weee

And, since CJ did not go with me (smarmy bastard) I went to Jax and got the 10 Silver Spangled Hamburgs, aka early birthday gift, and since they had them 5 Khaki campbells. Pics below. Brought them home, and it was like bringing a puppy home to a small child :D So, early birthday was a big hit :D

Here they are in the box I brought them home in

Here is a couple closeups of one

And here they are in their new temporary home!

Here are the ducklings

See the one in the back top? it has a crest! I have a crested khaki campbell! I don't know if thats good or not, but I think it's cool! :D

So, the 10 or 11 week old MFCxEE crosses are now outside, and somewhat protected from the main flock since they were being picked on while I was in the coop :smack The 5 or 6 week old MFCxEE and MFC by BA crosses are in the brooder with the SSH's and KC's :D

I love this life!

I would guess it is about time to try potting up some of those stinky Osage Oranges as well. I am hopeful that they start lots of baby trees for you. :)

I think each of those little fruits contains about a billion seeds. Lets see how many of these grow first or you may end up with a forest!

Cute babies by the way. Now you are not going to spoil them are you? :p

Duckies!!! :love

Handle them as much as possible now that they are small. They grow really fast and it is much easier to catch a friendly duck than a skittish one!

As for the crest, it is only an issue when you breed. If you breed a crested male to a crested female, you end up with a horrible hatch rate. Most wont develop. Some will but die in the shell or hatch with horrible defromities, and only a small amount will hatch healthy.

The crested gene is potentially lethal. Like golden quail or double dapple wiener dogs. I wont breed crested ducks even to a non-crested.

Hmm, thanks for that. I knew there was a reason why the crest might not be good, just didn't remember that. I'll still keep him/ her just for the heck of it, and really these are our test set to make sure we can keep from killing them when they are this young, to prepare us for when we get the WQ's from the lovely lady in longmont :)

You say that like it would be a bad thing?!!? maybe I want a forest :p but, good point :)
and as for spoiling, I'm sure CJ will spoil the SSH's, I am building a cattle panel hoop pen for them and one for the ducks :)

The Hamburgs will be easy to spoil! They are such sassy little birds.

I had a little Hamburg hen years ago that wanted babies SO badly I finally gave her a Cornish Rock to raise. It was SO funny watching her mother that little pullet that was WAY bigger than she was. She was a great mother. :D
