The role you think you will have as part of a couple and the role you end up with are not often the same thing. Hubby spent a few years as the house hubby with a part time job while I had the full time good paying job. Then when he had a better opportunity, I worked part time and he brought home the bacon.

I think having taken turns in the lead role we really appreciate the difficulties and rewards of working at home or working out in the big bad world. Both roles are important and neither should ever be taken for granted.

I think poor CJ just had a paradigm shift and it knocked him for a loop. Since he is, in your words, just a big girl, he saw himself more as the homemaker type. He didn't realize he was more of a modern woman type taking on the world, kicking a s s and taking names :D

Of course, it is so much easier to be that modern type when you can come home to your big strong man who made you dinner, listens to you rant for a bit and gives you safe shelter so you can recharge your batteries and head back out to take on the world another day. At least that is my experience.

Me growing up in neighborhood full of boys and hubby growing up with 4 sisters also helped. Traditional gender roles were never something we felt tied to and we have a pretty good understanding of each other's perspective.

I always have to buy mine as well. When I do find any at Goodwill they want a fortune for them. They are so "adorable" lots of city folks buy them for flower vases and such. :sick

Is that why??? *giggles*

Ah well. Once I have a good stock of them, I won't have to rebuy until I break a bunch.

:) Doing a cranberry ketchup (I have all the ingredients already lol), a tomato ketchup, russian pickled cherries (it's a fermented recipe), and chinese plum sauce.

I want to do tomato sauce too but there haven't been any cheap tomatoes; still waiting on a good sale.

Oooo berries are on sale too....

>.>

I adore jam.

I think I'd better find some berry jam recipes.... my mom just left her house so we're getting foods soon. Wednesdays are double ad days at Sunflower.

Can I can any cooked recipe that has enough vinegar/lemon??

1 teaspoon butter
1 green onion, chopped (or shallot bulb)
2/3 cup orange juice
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon raspberry preserves (seedless)
1/4 cup dried fruit, chopped (Sunmaid fruit bits)
2 teaspoons vinegar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 cup pecans, coarsly chopped
1 tablespoon honey
Directions:

1
In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter and add green onion until soft.
2
Add Orange Juice, water, raspberry preserves, dried fruit bits, vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes. Simmer until reduced by half, about 5-7 minutes.
3
Add chopped pecans and honey. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes.

So I found this recipe for roasted new taters that I tried, we'll see if it works (and yes I'll post this in the recipes section as well :p )

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb of new potatoes (red or yellow skinned), cleaned, cut in half or quarters
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 teaspoons fresh rosemary
1/4 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste

Method

1 Preheat oven to 450F. Place potatoes in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle on salt and pepper. Add olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. Toss until potatoes are well coated.

2 Spread potatoes out on a single layer of a baking pan. Roast for 40 minutes, or until potatoes are cooked through and browned. Serve immediately.

Serves 4-6.

I had 3#s (or so SO thought) so I just doubled the recipe, and added some thyme. I also used garlic powder instead of cloves and vegetable oil instead of olive oil because we didn't have any. Also, I still had some raspberrys in a bowl from when I had rinsed them so I put the raspberries in a different bowl, and took the watery juice from the first bowl, added it to the oil in the bowl I had the potatoes in after I put the taters on the sheet, and then shook that all over the taters so we'll see if I can taste it at all :D

I love new potatoes like that.

I like to throw a chicken in there too and roast the whole mess together with some lemon juice.
