Hey all...I have a couple of kefir questions!

1) I have read to not eat protein until 45 mins after ingesting kefir. So that means I can't add an egg yolk to my kefir smoothie?

2) I am playing around with recipes to get kefir into my kids. One smoothie calls for vanilla extract....I am thinking that the alcohol will kill the good beasties....anyone know?

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
No, I didn't request it yet. And actually we have decided to skip COBRA. Not sure if that matters but I have been a bit preoccupied. I paid cash for ds script, but it still a heck of a lot less than our COBRA payment. Working on the house. A never ending battle of evil vs good.
:he

I should call today. Thanks for reminding me. :thumbsup

Isn't the kefir itself protein? I wonder why it says that.

Not sure about vanilla extract, sounds yummy!

Have you tried cinnamon and honey/stevia? I drink mine with cinnamon and stevia, but I absolutely love it with cinnamon, honey AND a banana...yummy! Reminds me of the smoothies I used to get in Mexico, they were made with goat milk yogurt though.

Do they like ranch dip? (Dumb question, hua? :p )

Yes, they (well, one) likes ranch, she can not have the commercial kind any more due to the gluten...I need to search up the good ranch posted here soem where...you got one?

These girls are real PITAes about smoothies. No bananas, they don't like them. No berries , ACK! Seeds!, No kefir (gonna sneak that one in on them)...they like Jamba Juice AKA Sugar Overload.

We made one today that Jo the 16 yr old liked, but little Faith didn't. OJ, vanilla yogurt, ice, and vanilla extract...had to add 1/2 apple cuz it was a little tart.

I am going to play around with a chocolate one...kefir, cocoa powder, apple(for a little sweetness and fiber), water & ice.

I saw a choc banana one that looked yummy, but they can sniff out banana like a hound dog.

One the kefir/protein thing.....I may have misunderstood, it may have been saying don't eat dairy and protein together. I am not sure.

I thought I read somewhere to take the kefir on an empty stomach and that it was best with berries.

I ran out of bananas the other day and had to improvise. I mixed in cinnamon and brown sugar (honey would be better, but mine has crystallized and I didn't want to open the new container until I need it for something else). It was quite good like that. I used it as a dip for apple slices. Adding a little vanilla would probably make it even better.

If you ask me, adding a little vanilla extract is not going to have a huge effect on the beneficial microbes, so long as you eat it right after adding it.

Oh, I had some of my kefir with maple syrup before too, yum!

FD, I couldn't follow that link. Is it the homemade ranch dressing recipe? (Hope so!!) :D

ETA: Brown sugar DM? Sounds good! (I used to love brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal when I was a kid!)
