I've been here, just haven't posted a lot. Too much partisan contention on some of the threads.

This is not in response to the above thread. There have been a few days between it and this post.

I am a little saddened by the turn this forum seems to be taking. We started out as how to make do with less, home production and storage, and closely related subjects.

We seem to be heading towards a survivalist mentality in addition to rabid political posts.

How I long for the olden days.
You can always check out a few journals, dac....we are still fighting the good fight for frugality and home production! :) Quail is in high gear this spring! ;)

I am not a survivalist. I don't "worry" about anything, really. I do however like to be prepared--for what? God only knows, which is another reason I don't worry--it's out of my hands. While being a survivalist and being self sufficient do share some common ground, my journey is more about getting back to basics, making things from scratch, being frugal--depending on me and my own--for what we need, and therefore less dependent on commercialism. My goal is to make our time on earth better for us and our children. So, while we may have alot in common with survivalists, we can learn from them and them from us--it's just our reasons for doing so differ.

The political posts, I could surely do without (especially since I am Canadian). But then I just don't read them.

(not edited for typing, lol)

Ditto on the political crapola....seems to all turn into a tautology each time!

I turned my focus off politics while I was still in high school....about the time I determined that romance novels were unrealistic drivel and politicians were rolled out of the same dough and just stamped out with cookie cutters. :p

I decided then that there were some things worth spending time and thought on, and some weren't. Politics? Nope. Its all a dog and pony show!

Something just occurred to me today.

Bush really was a good president. He and congress allowed the financial system to get into a mess. This has resulted in people spending less. Spending less means less manufacturing and use of fossil fuels. That means fewer greenhouse gasses being emitted into the atmosphere. Fewer greenhouse gasses mean global warming will slow down.

See, he was a good president. Global warming is slowing down because of things that happened during his administration.

You know Dac, I think that being SS has a lot to do with seeing the good in situations too. You are good at that from what I've seen. We are the people that constantly pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and just keep on keepin on, you know. I think we all just have to keep on seeing the good.

LOL. I love it. I wish I could have seen the wood ducks. They are on my list of fowl I want to see. Along with a few others. But I did see a bunch of scarlet tanagers last year with Abigail, so I was able to cross those off my list. :thumbsup

Kitty had her kittens last night. One died but that is just the way things happen. There appear to be at least three that are alive. We haven't pestered her much. We want all them to get settled in. She is purring away and the kittens appear to be sucking. They are huge, about 6 inches long including the tail.

edited for clarification
