Wow, very awesome! I would love to get a ton of flowers like that!! I need to start asking around to friends to see if anybody has any more irises that need splitting. I think that they'll be the smartest thing for me to plant, well, that and the daffs the deer don't seem to bother, and that is GREAT in my book!

And it's windy with low humidity, again, today! :th Oh well! There are plenty of rocks holding down the orchard, so it won't blow away! :gig

Been sowing more seeds for this years garden and got two, half gallons of citrus vinegar steeping...one for cleaning and the other for hair rinse and I'm getting ready to go 'poo-less!

Will be making another batch of fire cider tonic in a couple days and will attempt my first batch of home made horserdish sauce at the same time. It's gonna be smelling good here!

We may have a new addition to our menagerie. :fl The past few weeks, doc has heard Smoke meowing loudly (no worries, she's fixed). She's not loud at all (unless she gets under your feet and you step on her...and she's good at that) so I'd go out to check on her and there would be no cat.

A couple night ago, he hear the "cat" again. At this point, I'm ready to tell him he's loosing it and I go outside, say "kitty, kitty, kitty" and I hear the cat! Yay...now we're both loosing it! :gig A few seconds later, here come Smoke and a cat we'd never seen before. He's a pretty little grey and white guy and an absolute love bug! He's been here for several night now so I've been putting down food and water for him when he shows up. He could just be visiting but he eats like he hasn't seen food in a while, so I really don't know. :hu

Well, I hear the seeds calling my name so I'm going to go get the last flat sowed with some herbs.

Hope everyones having a good day! :hugs

Sweet pumpkin pickles? Is there a link to that recipe?
Hey snap!

I didn't forget about this question and I finally hunted up which book it was in from mom's. It's from the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving (pg. 301). I'll print it out over at the canning thread, if ya want.

Well, didn't get the herb seeds that I wanted to sow today done since I had to hunt them up first.

Edited to add the rest of my post since I hit a wrong button somehow and posted it before I was ready. :hu

I did get a 5 gallon bucket of peat moss soaked and will add that and some sand to the potting soil that I have on hand to make it last a bit longer. Still have a bunch of fruit tree seeds that I need to get out of the bottom drawer of the fridge and into pots.

It's almost tropical here, tonight. Still 60's degrees at 10:30 p.m. so the heat is turned off and I have one of the windows cracked open a bit for some fresh air. Love it!!!

We've got some rain moving in tomorrow night and I'm ready for some as it's really dry here and I won't do any burning when it's a dry as it has been. We've been under a red flag warning (windy, dry and low humidity) and we saw several good sized fires on our way home from mom and dad's last night. A lot of folks here burn their fields this time of year and it just kills me when they do it with these winds we're having.

I got to watch a wild fire, around this time last year, that was right across the road from us. It started back in the woods and with 45 mph winds, it didn't take long to start seeing the flames. The closer they came, the more helpless I felt as there was nothing I could do but watch the local fire fighters/forest fire service do their thing. They got the worst of it contained just before dark. The good thing was that no one was hurt, no homes were lost, it didn't jump the highway and hit our place (we'd have lost everything) and that a lot of down fall was consumed. It was sad that almost 500 acres were burned but that has it's good points, too.

Fires Ravage Sharp County

Well, gonna get off here for now! :frow

And that's one reason why I like being able to get the dead trees out of the woods next to me. I figure in case of a fire, there'll be less fuel for it.

I need to burn some brush off today if conditions are okay for it. We have a big ole mess out here, but it has been so wet we haven't been able to take care of it so far. I've got to get some tilling done too sometime or other!

I know if I wanted to burn today, I wouldn't be able to. They had a warning on the TV this morning.

No burning wood here today either BUT both my palms and left knee are burning quite well, despite high winds.

Walked up to the mail box and decided to make a pit stop at the shed only to catch a loose, large piece of gravel and get body slammed! Didn't see any stars but the clouds were quite enjoyable to watch as I held the driveway down for a few moments to make sure it didn't blow away! :gig

Made it to the mail box and of course...no mail! I laughed at the rocks on the way back and feel much better now! ;)

Was going to get some seeds sown in the garden but my knee just doesn't want to bend that far, so I think I'll attempt to walk up to the shed again and get some seeds sown into the last two mini greenhouse flats. Kinda like getting back on the horse after it throws ya! ;)

Glad the driveway didn't blow away. You must have done a good job. Hope the knee feels better quick.
The wind is crazy here too lately. Good luck with the seed planting.

I'm kinda stuck down here about it. We still have almost a month that frost could happen, so I'm chicken to plant all the summer stuff. But it's warm enough to bother some of the cool season stuff already.
