Had a physically lazy day yesterday due to the constant rain but my hamster kept his wheel spinning and it probably needs replacing!

All the thinking is mostly doc's fault! ;) He wants to start working on the building materials list to get the north side of the cabin started this year. :bow

Then he left it up to me to figure out how I want to eventually get the large coldframe (frame from the softt sided shed) placed in the flat area (south of the camper) and to be able to eventually build the heated greenhouse in the same area. That was real fun since I couldn't get outside and stare the spot down.

Then I got to thinking about how to set up the old Chick-n-Barn for next years Runner Ducks! :bun

My brain, I mean hamster was wore out by then so I made my nose happy and buried it back in the first Foxfire book.

Today was really nice and not too windy so I got my last ounce of Ginseng seed planted!!! :celebrate Now to start setting back some "seed" money so I can actually pull off fall planted 'sang this year and start working/cleaning up the areas that I want to plant it.

After I got done with the ginseng, I got garbage burned since the wind was totally calm and I'm slowly moving burning chunks over to the stumps in the orchard, where I want to get my 7 berry bushes planted, to get the stumps burned out!

Back in a few...need to check the fire again...

Good civilized vist at Mom's yesterday! :D

On our way there, we stopped at the local convenience store for drinks and a snack. Had Bub with us and boy, did his head swell! An older gentleman saw him and asked doc if he could pet him...Boy-O just soaked it up. There was a young couple with a puppy sitting at the concrete picnic table and the pup got all excited when she realized Bub was there. So, after doc came out of the store, we put Bub on his leash and went to visit with them. The pup was just estatic that she made a new friend and Bub just let her wallow him all over, chew on his ears and legs...it was a blast to watch the two of them.

The couple are basically walking their way down to Jacksonville, Florida. We hung out with them for about a half an hour, wishing the whole time that the trunk and half of the backseat wasn't loaded down so that we could have given them a ride. At the same time, we came away feeling good that they made friends in Evening Shade and that we were able to tell them what the road was like and about some of the towns as they headed south towards Little Rock. They were gone when we came back through town on our way home. Had they still been sitting there, we'd probably have brought them home with us for the night and given them a ride south today.

We would have had to come home first to unload the car as it was even more loaded down. I brought home a box of a dozen half gallon canning jars, a box of tins and a large box of kitchen scraps. Gotta love shopping at the store of Mom! Included in the chicken scraps was a half a bag of slightly old apples so I'll be cutting them up tonight and using them for my first attempt at homemade apple cider vinegar!

It's been raining just about all day and the plants are loving it...we can almost see them growing, right before our eyes! :D

I'm gonna end this post and will be back after I get some pix uploaded! ;)

Hope everyone has had a good weekend! :hugs

Mom's pond. As you will see in the second picture, it's Bubba's favorite place to hang out.:

Our fall-planted garlic. The 1st row (on the left) is half Georgian Fire, half Purple Glazer. The rest of the bed is California Late White:

My oldest Rosemary plants. She's been blooming since December:

The Chick-n-Barn that we bought to house our Banty chicks in back in 2007. Back then:

The Teacup Pterodactyl Townhouse

And now:

After dicussing using this for next years' Runnder ducks, we've decided against using it for them (lack of head-room for the drake) and will keep this for the chickens. We're discussing building a pallet shack for the ducks since doc can get them free from work.

I need to finish getting the hardware cloth on the Barns' runs finished and will be using to see which hens are layings and which ones aren't. Time to ditch the freeloaders! ;) Been thinking about kicking the guineas out of their place since I'm down to 3 males. If I do that, then I can split the flock and use the playhouse coop for the Hamburgs and keep the EE's in the hoop coop. Decisions, decisions...:idunno

Well, I think I'm gonna get off of here and start cutting up apples for my latest science project!

See y'all tomorrow! :frow

Love the pic of the pond. Does it have a stream coming out of either end?

Hi Deb!

There's a wet weather "stream" if you count the water that flows out of the over-flow pipe on the south end. It's mostly filled from the run off from 3 hills on the east, north and west sides.

Didn't get my ACV experiment started last night. Stayed busy with my wrist rocket trying to convince a stray dog that my chickens are not a free meal! :duc There were several deer hanging out around the driveway just before it showed up and I'm guessing it was chasing them when it caught a whiff of my birds.

Beautiful day here...sunny, breezy and 78 degrees. On the down-side, the red wasps are enjoying it, too!

Well, outta here for now and back to the garden...

Red Wasps : 1 Dawn: 0 :hide

No, I didn't get stung (yet) but the *bleeps* won't leave me alone in the garden so I have tucked my tail and am piddlin' around in the camper and "real" shed. Will probably sneak back out to the garden after dark and sow some seeds using the head lamp. ;)

Got some BOSS soaking to sprout for the hens, soaking some seeds up in the shed to help them speed up germination and fixing to get some of my fruit tree seeds potting since I can't find the Sweet Pea seeds that I came in to look for! :/

Just hit 80 degrees F, so the heat is completely off, windows & ceiling vents are cranked open and the 2 small fans are running! Yay for fresh air!!! :celebrate

And speaking of yays...got 5 eggs from the ladies (9 of them) today! They either have excellent hearing or they are reading our minds and know we're fixing to do away with the freeloaders. :gig
