The temporary berry orchard fence is 9/10ths complete...just need to finish the east-side gate and that's on tomorrows to-do list! Would have had it finished this evening but found a wasp nest in the cow skull that hangs on the fence. Will be going out in a few with the spray and decimating a few nests!
I also decided to try an experiment on myself... I now have purple and orange tiger striped hair! Just kidding!
I'd read that the stinging meanies don't like the smell of citrus and I just happen to have a half gallon of citrus vinegar brewing so I doused myself from head to hips. I smell like a walking grapefruit BUT it kept the buggers out of my face!
Well break time is over but I'll be back shortly with more tales from our lives and pix to prove it!!!
Pic 18 starts the little pitstop we made at The Jacob Wolf House. If it hadn't been for the detour, we would have never got to enjoy this. I love it when things work out like that!
Next up is the work I did on the fence today. The first pic is, I suspect, my first Ginseng seedling. Wanted to go look at it again today but it was kind of windy and I figured that a watched patch never sprouts.
Wonder if he's any relationship to me. I also have the name Wolf in my genealogy, and also from Germany. Been wanting to do a family tree for years now, maybe this winter I'll finally get to it. I have so many people asking me if I'm Native American and would love to finally be able to answer that question.
We moved them from TN to AR (housed at Mom's) and ended up loosing the pair of Daffodil Cichlids but our Clownfish survived. We were sure we'd loose the Clowns since it took us about 10 hours to make that trip and a few hours more to get tanks unloaded and set back up.
Pix from around the farm (sunsets, seedlings, blooms, greenery, etc...):
After the above post, I headed back out to finish the "gate" on the orchard fence...and headed right back in. I sprayed wasp killer in the cow skull on the fence but apparently missed some and got buzzed as soon as I got back there.
Since I was indoors, I checked on some information for my aunt, found what she was looking for, went out to water some potted plants and my mom and aunt pulled in the driveway. They kidnapped me for a bit and we went into town. Doc and I have dubbed the two of them Thelma & Louise, so it's always a good time to go into public with them! I picked up some Garden Balsam, Chives and Foxglove seeds as well as a roll of landscape fabric and a rawhide bone for Bubba...had $10.00 with me and came home with a bit of change in my pocket!
We hit 85 today...it was only supposed to hit 77, so no wonder the stinging meanies were feisty. It's a comfortable 74 now so I'm going to attempt to get back outside and work some more.
More great pics!! I am so jealous of all that green and the lake! I'm also jonesin' for a camera!! I would love to build a house like "The Dogtrot." The breezeway design is something I've always liked! Is that smaller house part of the same property? It's pretty cool too!
I can't believe just how fast everything is greening up here. When I went to check on the seeded mini-greenhouses that I have in the freeze-frame I noticed that my Yarrow has bloom stalks already coming up. It's waaaay early for that.
As we headed into "downtown" Norfork, I saw that old , huge cabin, raced to get a pic only to realize that doc had locked the power windows. I'm yelling, "unlock me, unlock me", I feel sorry for him... sometimes. He fixed the window, I grab the quick shot and then he pulled off into the parking area. What a doll!
All of those buildings are on the same small piece of property. I wanted to get pix of the small blacksmith building, too, but it started to rain again and we decided to beat-feet for the go cart since we'd left the windows down. It's not far from home so we'll hopefelly get in another trip there soon on a day it isn't raining.
I got the cow skull sprayed down again and cut it off the fence and put it in a black garbage bag. I about messed myself when a few dead stinging meanies "flew" out of it as I cut the wires that were holding it on the fence. I have every intention of finishing that gate tomorrow! Then I can take down the 2' chicken wire fences from around the fruit trees and use those pieces to block off the doors on the soft-side shed to keep the cluckers out of there, or so I think!
Pretty sunset!
I like that cabin too. Those overhangs probably helped lots with passive cooling.
He was some politician. He gave them the land- got paid to build the place, - then it was given back to him afterwards to use for his big family. Sweet deal.
