YAY CURRANTS...
i NEED to put black currants in at minimum around here, black crrent juice is insanely popular in the UK and since moving i cant find it unless i want to pay insane prices...
You know how in the US, black/dark purple fruitflavored items are grape, grape juice, grape gummies, grape lollipops...in the UK there is no grape flavor (or mouldy wood flavor as we call it) everything "purple fruit" is black currant...purple USED to be my favorite flavor in sweets LOL...

Currants! WOOT!

Hi Deb!

Found a cool site for leaf composition and the leaves appear to be arranged in a whorl around the main stem.

Haven't really accomplished much of anything today, or at least it feels that way. :/

Critters are all taken care of, cleaned and oiled the fans, cleaned the AC filter, shop vacced the window screens and the computer keyboard. I'd forgotten just how old it is...it's from our first new computer so it's at least 10 years old. She's definately in the running for retirement.

Well, just wanted to mainly give the cleaner board a test run and it'll work for now. Bub and I are getting ready to go haul in some deadfall wood and get a fire started...we're really just trying to make it rain!

Hi lazyday!

Still haven't figured out that vine yet and am checking on the potted up one every day in hopes of catching it bloom. :fl It's as bad as waiting on a pot of water to boil! :gig

It's my first experience with Currants this year and no fruits from the black but I'll try and get some cuttings rooted, if you want some. ;) I don't like grape-flavored anything unless its those lavender colored Irises that smell like grape-flavored Kool Aid or home-canned grape juice or wine! I'm so thrilled that the white Currant put on a bit of fruit (which I should have picked off, but just had to try it) that I wish we'd have bought some more plants!

I'll be doing an update here, later today, have been super-busy and miss y'all! :hugs

Finally making it back for an update! :th

The weather is horrendous...still in the 90's and no rain so I've been busy with trying to keep what we've got planted alive and it's turned into a full-time job. Mom gave me a 50' soaker hose which I'll connect with our other 50 footer and that will have the orchard covered, plus doc bought two new 25 footers and I'll keep them down in the garden. It'll be a huge help not having to constantly drag the one 50 footer all over the yard. ;)

Doc rocked it on his last week off and got the one downed red oak out of the orchard area for me. Took him 4 hours to cut it up and get it all split and stacked by the east gate. I was thrilled but then it let me know that I've still got a few stumps to get burned out before I can even think of planting my berry bushes. :th

And since I'm wanting to get that burning done and out of the way it has been nothing but too windy (for as dry as it is) for me to burn. :barnie

Since burning hasn't been an option, I've been slowly chipping away at planting holes for flowers and herbs in the orchard and I finally got my Arkansas Black Spur planted. :celebrate

It took doc 4 hours to cut, split and stack that red oak...it took me 4 hours of rock wrestling to plant my Arkansas Black. :gig

My last attempt at eggplant and pepper seeds was yet another fail so today I made a third attempt. :hu I've moved the mini-gh's to the real shed so I can hopefully regulate the temperature and moisture levels better and keep the mice/birds/lizzards/grasshoppers out of them. Needless to say, I'm totally frustrated at this point!!! :rant

On a positive note: the newly adopted asparagus crowns are sending up new shoots every day and I will be getting them planted in the bed in a few days. :celebrate Been holding off on permanently planting them until I have enough bunny gold/shredded leaf mulch for them. ;)

And as much as I "love" facebook...it's gotten us back in contact with 2 dear friends that we hadn't talked to in too many years. :hugs

And saving the best, for last: our best friend/younger brother/the son we'll never have is planning on coming out for a visit in June or July! :ya So that means that I've gotta get my rear in gear and get the Palace cleaned up. :th

That is so weird, I was scrolling through your pictures, and saw the picture of Doc. Do you have one of him closer up? Cuz he looks like he could be closely related to my DH  I would post a pic of DH for comparison, but he tends to always flip off the camera (hates his picture taken) and my stupid IP won't let me upload pictures lately anyway :/

I am on batch number two of seedlings. I talked with a man at a greenhouse nearby, plus picked WBF's brain, so :fl hoping these work out. I bought all the plants I needed for this year, but want to get this figured out for the future. Good luck on yours!

:woot on visits from people you really WANT to show up!

:D I was just going to post that pic of us and BAM!!!...my keyboard finally went total belly-up. It was just a matter of time, anyways, and has been for awhile now.

A quick funny: The friend that's coming to visit had moved up North, we "bought the farm" and he moved back to TN just before we moved out here. So we decided to get together before we left and did 2 concerts...Judas Priest and Metallica in Nashville. My blonde-self had it in my mind that the guys would be easy to spot the two of them with their shaved heads and beards/goatees. Every other guy was sportin the same! :gig

On hubby's laptop and the smaller keyboard is whoopin' me, bad!:gig

Sorry to hear your having seed starting woes, also. :hugs Mom told me I was very patient...I told her nope, I am just stubborn as all get-out as I've never had this much trouble before! If my controlled experiment doesn't work any better, I'll contact the seed company and let them know. And at that time, veggie plants should be about 50% off and then we'll just go that route for a quick fix. :D This is what I get for trying to toot my own horn on how much cheaper it is to grow your own plants from seed. :idunno Most local places are now selling individual plants as opposed to cell-packs and I refuse to pay $3.00 plus for a single veggie plant. :smack

Can't wait for our buds' visit! We spent an hour trying to figure out what sights to show him and decided on the best one...time here, cooking out, hanging out by the fire and listening to the Chuck-wills-widows, tree frogs, coyotes and watching the lightning bugs and stars while sipping on some homemade pear and/or watermelon wine. Doesn't get much more relaxin' than that!

That's a pretty little apple tree. I hope it does great for you.

That 1st pic with the trunk laying down made me think of a raised bed frame. Next, I thought was it could work for a little parking area. The trunks would keep people from driving into the wrong areas. It could work- if you get downed tress that you can't burn.

I guess it's summer here now, for firewood to be the 3rd thought after seeing so much wood.
