I'll be looking that plant up later this afternoon, when I come in to hide from the heat and soak up the AC!
Got the bunny gold/leaf mulch/soil/peat mix put on the bed for the future 'maters and peppers but had to take a break before turning in as it's muggy as all get-out already. Had just enough to cover the entire 20' row about an inch deep. I love it when things work out that way!
Noticed that the garlic is starting to send up scapes.
The hummingbirds are really active today, I've been buzzed by atleast 2 of them already...it should make for an interesting day!
Well, I'm gonna go get that row turned and see what else I can get done before it gets too hot!
DS#2 says several hummingbirds have been hanging out by the large flowering bush outside his bedroom window. I was hoping to attract them to the picture window at the front of the house, but they seem perfectly happy right where they're at :/
Hi Dawn, in your post #500 the plant you wonder about may be Goat's rue Tephrosia virginiana it is the in the bean family but is poisonous.
Description: low bushy, hairy plants to 2 feet tall but usually shorter.
Flowers: in terminal racemes and others arising from leaf axils, with showy pea flower type blossoms; the standards light yellow suffused with pink while the keel is pink or very pale purple.
Leaves: compound with normally 21 narrowly oblong leaflets.
Fruit: small pods to 2" long
Habitat: rocky, open woods. savannas, glades, fields in acid soils
The roots contain rotenone, a deadly poison for fish and other cold blooded animals. Native Americans used plant extract for fish poison
Didn't get much done outside today (hit the 90's again) or inside for that matter, since doc was sleeping.
I no sooner started turning under the mix in the 'mater row and the sun burned off the clouds and it got hot...quick. Was gonna get back out there this evening but the skeeters are bad, too, so I'm hiding...again!
I did brave the blood-suckers long enogh to get 4 pots of lemon seedlings planted so I can take them with us to mom's tomorrow. 12 seedlings down and about 30 more to go! It'll make a nice start on the hedgerow IF we ever get enough rain so that I can get them planted in the ground. I found a few more shriveled-up looking lemons and I think I'll just winter-sow them in place (along the property lines) this coming Fall.
Can't say I didn't accomplish anything as I did find the pretty "not sure", so now I am sure...it's Goat's Rue. and the woods are loaded with it, in decent-sized patches here and there.
We might sit out by the fire tonight if I get off my rump and go brave the ticks and skeeters. Not really feeling that brave but the moon should be pretty tonight since tomorrow night is the SuperMoon. Will take the tripod and camera with us to moms tomorrow in hopes of getting some pix of it coming up.
Got the "frame" made for mom so she can put shade cloth over her house plants which are sitting on her back deck. Got what cloth she had tacked up over the plants but she'd like to get another section of it. Forgot to take pix but will do so when we get the second section added.
Finished disassembling her wishing well roof so she can get it painted and we'll be rebuilding the roof support for her. That just may be a good Mother's Day project since doc starts his week off just in time. Think we'll take over our little grill and cook her dinner, too!
Picked on Mini-Me/niece as she came dressed in orange shorts/t-shirt and her dyed red hair has taken on an orange color so she was dubbed the Great Pumpkin! She wasn't impressed but we all had fun with it at her expense!
Got lots of pix of the Supermoon and will get them in an album later today, but will be nice and share one of my favorites right now!
Brought home another bucket full of Irises from Sis. Wasn't really suprised as she wants a yard full of flowers but can't stand gardening in any shape, form or fashion (unless it's on Farmville).
Got the camera set up outside, waiting on the moon again but have been watching flashes from the storm east of Jonesboro so I'm just about to break it down and bring it in for the night as I'm tired of waiting on it!
It's almost Monday and time for the trip to Bakers Creek! I don't think I've ever been this excited about a Monday, before!
