No thing much going on here, but I've been busy the past few days working on reclaiming the clearing and garden.

This past Saturday, I had a day away with mom and had a blast. My grandniece turned 1, so we had a party for her at the community center. My nephew managed to lock his keys in his car and he had spares made but they were sitting in the ashtray! :gig Fortunately, for him, the community center is also home to the police department.

After the party, we went back to mom's a chilled out for a couple hours and then we went to a womanless beauty pageant at the high school. It was a fundraiser hosted by the Dream Riders motorcycle club and I'm pretty sure that all of the contestants were members of the club since I can't imagine many of the locals doing anything like that! I'm still kicking myself for forgetting to bring the camera as it was down-right hilarious! :gig

Still picking blackberries but it's been a sad harvest this week as our Summer Tanagers are getting to them before I can. Then yesterday I busted the guineas hopping up and eating some. But there are still tons of unripe berries left to ripen and I'm even seeing a few canes that are still blooming so it's going to be a long and drawn out harvest from the looks of it! :celebrate

Doc is off for the next 3 days, so tonight we will be celebrating the 3 year anniversary of "buying the farm"! :celebrate

Well, I'm going to get back outside and get some more watering done and haul in some deadfall for the fire tonight.

If you get a chance to take a pic of the tanager. I don't think we have them around here.

Awesome anniversary out by the fire! :D

Doc cooked Italian Sausages on the grill and we had dinner outside, by the fire light, while the sun was going down. Didn't have a spectacular sunset but we got to watch 3 bats and the Chuck's wills-widows were close by and it was wonderful music...until the late spring/summer night-time bugs started their racket. I'm not complaining about the night-time bugs but they seem louder this year and it's not because my hearing has miraculously gotten better! :gig

We had fun talking about where we've been, what we're doing now and where we plan to go next. Those kind of conversations are always great outside by the fire and under starlit skies. :D The "where we plan to go next" always gets me in trouble as I'm seriously considering mini goats as opposed to ducks at this point in time, for next years livestock addition. The ducks would be great for the bugs...the goats would be great with my trying to keep the forest from reclaiming itself. Then doc brings up the bees we're supposed to get from a friend...it's a loosing battle on where to go next, as far as me making a decision is concerned. I want it all and I want it yesterday! :gig Sigh...but a contented sigh. :D

Saw a weird sight when star-gazing at one point. Watched what looked like an airplane in flight but there were no flashing colored lights and whatever it was looked like it had a spotlight going as it was so bright. Then we both watched the bright light fade until it was almost nothing and the size of a pinhead. Doc suspects it was a satellite, I don't have a clue. :hu

That's exactly what he's been doing, Deb!

He and the Mrs have been busy defending their turf from "that other pair" ever since the blackberries began ripening. :gig Now that I've gotten a pic of him, I'll tie bags over the mirrors in hopes that they'll quit painting the truck purple! :gig

Happy Summer!!! Felt funny typing that since it's been feeling like summer since April!:gig

I missed it one day, but the neighbor told me I had a tom turkey attacking my truck lights! Apparently he was seeing his reflection and wasn't going to let this other turkey on his turf. I can just imagine the insurance report I would have had to make if he had managed to do some serious damage to my truck.

OK, and now how did your truck get all beat up? It was attacked by a turkey.

ff6,

The ufo thing definately crossed my mine at the time! :hide

Deb,

It would have been a riot to watch that tom turkey and it's even funnier thinking about you possibly having to make that report! :gig

Not much going on here as it's been sweltering hot, as in mid to upper 90's! I just came in from checking my cell phone for messages and watching the heat waves coming from the road. :th About all that is getting accomplished is keeping the critters in fresh, cool water, picking berries and running the soaker hoses. :/

Been worried about the buns and the broody but they are handling the heat better than I am, or so it seems. :hu Ms. Broody hasn't had much interest in food so I've been soaking layer pellets in kefir milk for her and she's loving it and I'm keeping electrolytes in everyones water at this time. ;)

Haven't had a drop of rain since the 11th and there's none in the forecast until the 30th with a few days of 100+F thrown in...sigh! :th

I'm needing to get the garlic harvested, as the tops are dying off, but I'm dreading it as it isn't cooling off in the evenings like I wish it would. :rant

Well, I need to get off of here and move the soaker hoses around...:frow

Just think if I had had a video camera, and had managed to get it on tape, I could have won some money on AFV.
