Pinky, maybe a good project for you for next year would be to make them a home. We tried it once, but hubby must have made the entrance holes too big. All we got were starlings.

Avalon, there was no way I was going to catch that dumb thing in my mouth! It would have stung me and I'm allergic! Plus, it wasn't a honey bee, so you wouldn't have wanted it. It was probably some type of hornet.

My eggs should have hatched on Tuesday. I've got nothing. This is so discouraging. I don't know why I have so many problems. Hopefully, I'll have a couple of broodies w/the nuggets and will be able to have em hen raised. I've already decided if I get nothing this time, I'll be buying some chicks from the feed store. They'll have Amecuanas on the 21st, and that's what I want. I can't really afford to buy them but at the same time, if I'm going to increase my flock, I don't really have a choice. :/

See, I have been trying to aling dead pine branches as a sort of tarmac guided light system to send them straight to my hives. So far it hasnt worked too well, my bees are just so stupid. Yesterday I switched the entrance on them to the other side (had to switch it to a bigger setting) and it took some workers all day to figure this out, the just keep banging against the wood where the old door was. Some caught the change right away and tried to buzz the other ones over, but some seemed to take forever.

In that case I am glad you didn't get hurt. I swallowed a bee once and it stung me on the inside of my throat before dying in my tummy. It was bad.

That sounds horrible Avalon! I am allergic like Deb, so one nailing me INSIDE my throat, would've most certainly been bye-bye Cindi :p

Yeah, my good old competetive bicycling days. You'd be amazed what you swallow. I am not allergic but I was out in nowhereland (I did mountain biking, so I was waayyy in the mountains). I took a half hour break, drank some water and then headed back home, which was mostly downhill thankfully. Was much better after a few days. One time I got stung in the hand by a bumble bee. Yes they can sting and it hurts like mad! She had hidden under a handle so as soon as I lifted it, I got stung. That took weeks to get better, almost drove me nuts.

I don't know if I'm just paying more attention to the birds or what, but yesterday I saw the tanager. Today, I saw a Baltimore oriole! (AKA northern oriole) And, if I had had any doubts as to which I had seen yesterday, after seeing the oriole, I KNEW for sure! The oriole wasn't anywhere near as vibrant in color. Plus, it had black that the tanager didn't have!

Today had it's ups and downs. Seeing the oriole was a definite up. But, when I went to pull in my field w/the mower (I was going to work on the fence line and just toss the weeds in the cart), the piece of cardboard I had wedged in to keep it running fell out, the mower shut off, and I couldn't get it to start back up! I tried jumping it, no luck. I looked at it, it was on a slope so I figured maybe if I got it level it would start. Nothing. The gas was a little low, so I decided I'd get some gas and try it later. But in the meantime, I had weeds to dig out.

I got started on digging them out. There's a bunch of dock along this fence line. And, there's a lot of rocks in the soil! So, digging them out was NOT easy. But I got over 20 feet done! I don't know if I'll get to it tomorrow or not.

My mower was in the way where it stopped-right in the middle of the lane. There was no one else there, so by myself I managed to push it up a slight incline to right in front of the gate to my field. I had to leave it there for awhile. I was heading over to the nature center to help w/a school group. I took my gas can w/me.

To get to the nature center, I have to go right past one branch of my bank. I decided I was going to stop and get some money. There's a work truck in the driveway when I pull up. I get around to the other side. The ATM lane is closed. And, instead of the ATM, there's a large hole in the side! They were replacing it. So, I couldn't get any money.

I got to the nature center a bit early. That was good, gave me a chance to talk to JT for a bit while we waited for the group. Another helper, LK, showed up. And we waited and waited and waited. JT tried to call, but got an answering machine. They were supposed to be there at 9:30. When it was almost 10:15, I decided to leave. And that's when they finally got there. They were only supposed to be there for an hour, they were longer. So it was closer to 12:00 B4 I was able to leave.

Head to the gas station. I was going to get $4.00 worth of gas in the can. Normally, that will fill it. Well, the prices have come down and it wouldn't take $4.00! I actually got 6 cents change. I got to the farm and put the gas in my mower right away, then drive up to my tack shed and get the key. Stormy is looking at me saying, Feed Me! So, I got him fed and then tried to start the mower. Nothing. Went and got my jump pack and tried again. Still nothing. But it sounded like it wanted to start. Left it on and went off 1 last time then tried again and it started! So, I was able to drive it back up the lane and park it. I hope it starts tomorrow.

I had been going to groom the horses, but didn't have time. I had weeds I had planned on working on, so I worked on them. Another 2 days at the most, and all the weeds will be gone from in front of my shed.

I was getting ready to leave when my phone rings. I can't read the number w/out my glasses on, so I answered it. It was KN. I'm not sure how long I was on the phone w/her B4 I was able to get her to stop talking. By the time I was finally able to get home, it was almost 3:00! I had had no lunch. I needed to put clothes in the washer. I had planned on doing some housework this afternoon. I got the clothes in right away, then got something to eat. The clothes are on the line. I have a loaf of bread in the bread machine. I need to do dishes. And I'm beat. I stayed up to late last night watching the Phils. But, at least they won, 9-2! And one guy hit a grand slam home run!
