I know he has to have been in captivity for over a year. She got him for free from someone else that was supposedly a mustang trainer. And, I do know they cannot transfer ownership for at least a year. And, she has had someone on him bareback, but that's it. So, there is at least some kind of foundation to build on.

Actually, I don't think he would be that hard to work with. I worked w/him a bit today when I was trying to catch him. I just didn't have the time that I needed. She doesn't have any trouble walking up to him, but I was someone strange, and he was in a strange place. Plus, where he was wasn't an ideal spot for working w/him.

I've worked w/several people, going to their house, where they board, etc. But I've found for most, they want a quick fix. And, when they realize that it will take awhile to get the results they want, they normally stop. Many of the people that I'm coming in contact with are 1st time horse owners (mainly women) who have grown up reading stories like Black Beauty, the Black Stallion, etc, and want that special relationship w/a horse. But what they fail to realize is that, just like any other GOOD relationship, it takes time to develop. They want it as soon as the get the horse.

Most people want a car - not a living breathing animal like a horse.

You buy a new car it will drive where you want and immediately do everything that you want. People look at you and are impressed.

Horses take work, time and commitment. Three words most people have never learned.

My first true horse was a mustang. Dh got it for me when we got married. Her name was Shawnee. Later I got another one whose name was Shy Anne :D when I got her. They were both wonderful loyal horses, but probably not anything for a beginner. I was lucky with Shawnee, she was calm and gentle when I got her, and dh lead me through the training and breaking. Of course my worst fall which included and panicked horse and being drug across a pasture by one leg also happened on her. Dh had a mustang that was stinkin mean. i was riding Shawnee and leading Mystic(his horse) when that mean heifer bit my poor girl. Mine jumped forward and Mystic spun to kick her while I was still holding her rope. It all happened so fast I didn't think to let go. I was yanked out of the saddle, but my foot hung in one of the stirrups. Shawnee ran for the barn panicked. I made it out of it all with only bruises. Halfway to the barn, my shoe came off and I came loose from the horse. Just to prove I was okay, I got back on her and rode her back to the house. But that could happen on any horse.

Glad you're OK. I honestly don't know what kind of a rider she is. I've never seen her ride. RU will let her ride one of her horses for now.

Maybe she'll be one of the lucky ones, like I was. Misty was probably NOT the best choice of a horse for me. People that knew me were shocked that I got an unhandled, 5 yo Arabian. But, it worked out. And, I learned more w/her than I would have learned if I had gotten the horse I was looking for. Most people who are meeting me for the 1st time are under the impression that I've grown up around horses. But, I've learned it not the number of years of experience that matters, but the experience you've had in those years.

In northern Colorado a LOT of folk have horses. You will see people with "horse plots" where their horse lives and they have an apartment in the city :D

I love horses but there's no way I can even think about affording one!

Same here, Abifae. I love horses. But I fall off too much when I ride!

I think they are the most beautiful animal on earth though.

It got into the 60s here today! :weee I built a fire this morning, then didn't need one the rest of the day. It's going back down into the 20s tonight, so I do have a fire going, and it's going to be in the 30s tomorrow. But, then they're calling for warmer weather the rest of the week! My hubby forgot to pay the bill for my motorcycle so they canceled my policy. Otherwise I would have been riding that today.

And, I got 2 eggs again today! I can tell the difference between the 2 of them. I want more hens, but don't want to buy any hens or chicks. I'd rather raise my own. But at the same time, I don't want my hens to stop laying. So, I'm wondering about an incubator. (Never thought I'd be wanting to do that.) That way, I'd be able to increase my flock this year w/out having any down time.

And, my garden is no longer snow covered or frozen! So, as soon as I have a bit of free time, I'll be finally getting it all ready for spring. Plus, I will soon be getting my seeds started! I can hardly wait for spring.

WOW! You are a busy woman with LOTS of inner strength! My hat's off to you, Ma'am!

I hear you about the weather. It was 70* here today and I sure missed my motorcycle too (lost it in the financial troubles last year).

Take care and get some rest if you can!

It was beautiful here today as well! I made a homemade bator a few years back and it works pretty well! I just set some eggs in it tonight... I bought a silkie last year in hopes she would go broody for me... but nope! so looks like I'm raising chicks again myself this year...
