We had light flurries off and on until around 5:00. Then it started to snow and hasn't stopped! Don't know about the roads, but the ground is getting covered pretty quickly.

Oh no! I've had flurries all day here too but it's stopped and after tonight's cold weather between 12-18 degrees its supposed to start warming up again. Hope your snow melts quickly!

So do I! But, if we're going to have bitterly cold wind chills, I'm glad it's tomorrow. I'll be at the church for choir practice instead of hiding in my tack shed at the farm. I'm seriously thinking of putting some plastic around it next year to try and hold some heat in it.

I got good night's sleep last night, but I'm still feeling tired. I will do as much work today as I can. I'm looking forward to Saturday. I don't have any reason for being up early once hubby leaves for work. And, they're calling for rain. So I'm planning on going back to bed then. I'll probably do the same on Sunday.

Other than normal chores (feed the animals, clean the field, work on the kitchen) and choir practice, the big thing I have planned for today is to try and rig something up in the green house for keeping a 2x6 space heated. I had been going to try and figure out how to make a mini green house in my old fridge, but I just never had the time. This won't take long. I got the wood that I need yesterday and stuck it in the green house. Now I just need to find the plastic. I also need to remember to bring home my saw and some nails from the tack shed. And since it will be warm in the green house-70s or 80s!-, I'm hoping to get it all cleaned out. I may just need to make a few of these if this works. I've told hubby I want to make a rocket mass stove for in there. He was all for it, but he's never done anything to help me make it. Why am I not surprised?

We got a dusting really. I'm already seeing the wind being it off the trees. Not thrilled about the guard today. At least it is going to be warmer soon, but that brings the rain.

I have been mulling over an idea for heat in my greenhouse (when I can finally dig my way out to it! :p ) I want to try the flower pot/candle method - have you read about that? I see it frequently for emergency heat in your house, so I think I'm going to gather the supplies to try out there. I'll move the wireless outdoor thermometer to the greenhouse, to monitor it while I test, so I can keep an eye on the temp without constantly opening the door. I also plan to start another bucket of poo tea - last year that percolating away in there raised the temps a little bit :hu

I thought about the candles, but I don't know how well it would work. I think it's too big of an area. I had a propane heater in there, and that didn't keep it warm!

OK, I didn't finish making my box for the greenhouse. I knew what I wanted to do, but it was colder in there than I was expecting and it was a bit hard to do by myself. I got part of it done. I stopped at around 6:00. By that time, it was only about 40* in there!

First problem I had was I realized I forgot to bring home my staple gun. So, I had to find a stapler at home. I found 2 mini ones. Hopefully, if I forget to bring it home, they'll work.

I went to check the light in there. It didn't work. I didn't know if it was the light, or if the extension cord wasn't plug in. So, I plugged in the charger for my battery and got nothing. So I had to go and plug that in. That took a bit since there was stuff on top of the cord, but I got it done.

Next, when I went to untangle the Christmas lights I had found, they were a real mess! I was able to get them off the holder then were on, then started to untangle them. That's when I realized that what I had were the icicle lights. I didn't want to use them so I went in and grabbed another string of lights. They're not quite long enough, but I was hoping I could at least get some kind of idea.

Then I realized that I wasn't sure where there was a hammer. I searched in my truck, but didn't find the one I have in there. I knew where there was a smaller, light hammer, but didn't want to use it. But, since that was all I could find, I grabbed it.

I had no problem measuring and cutting the boards. That only took a few minutes. The problem came when I went to nail it together. I could have used some help on holding the boards in place. I finally found something I could prop the one board up on that was about the right height. So, I got the top and the bottom sections nailed together. But, I didn't get the sides nailed on. I'm hoping to do that tomorrow. Then I need to find some more lights.

I had some tomatoes I had thrown in the freezer over the summer. I was going to make sauce. I had some others that I had thawed out B4, but the sauce was so bitter I ended up tossing it. My thought had been that they sat in the fridge too long. This time around, they were still slightly frozen. I get all set up, try a handful and tasted it. It was bitter! So then I peeled one of the tomatoes and tried that thinking it was maybe the skin. It was still bitter. So, I tossed all the maters. I'm wondering if it's due to the type of tomatoes I had. I lost my plants last year when we got a very late frost, so I had to buy them. And, I accidentally got pear tomatoes instead of paste tomatoes. I have some more in the freezer that are a paste tomato, so I'll try them another day.

When I was in Wally World yesterday, they had some hollow, plastic eggs. It was $1.97 for a dozen pack. I've been trying to find some fake eggs for putting in w/my hens other than the ones you fill. My hens just kick them out. I got 6 ceramic ones in Hobby Lobby. But, they were expensive! They cost almost $2.00 per egg! So I decided I'd try these plastic ones. I threw a couple in the nesting box along w/the ceramic ones I already have in there. I had a hen lay in there after I did that, so I know they're OK so far as feel and size go. But, they're kind of light. So, I was able to put a hole in them, fill them w/water, then put some wax over the hole. They now weigh about the same as a regular egg! So I'm hoping this works and I'll have someone go broody soon. I'm not overly happy w/the little house in my broody pen, so if no one gets broody by Friday, I'm going to make a new house and take it out on Saturday. It may rain, but I figure I can work in my green house if need be. I plan on getting it all cleaned out on Friday, so that, along w/making a hay feeder for the goats will give me 2 outside projects I can do even if it does rain.

Sounds like things didn't quite go your way today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better! And it's always good to have a back up plan for rain :)
