I actually had 15 on order to arrive May 2nd, but I cancelled them because I knew I would just not have enough time to create a brooder in the chicken coop.

Glad your hen did a good job for you! Bet they are cute, cute, cute!

I just got 2 doz fertile eggs this afternoon. Will place them tonight under my 2 brooding girls. If the hens hatch them, I don't have to "count" them in acquisition terms....I mean, they were JUST eggs & the hens changed that...right? :hu:rolleyes:

Still nothing from the bator.

Going to have a busy day today. I should be able to take the hen and chicks out to the farm. It's not supposed to start raining again until late. Tomorrow is supposed to be miserable out. I'm needing to do laundry, but I think it's all going to be dried in the dryer this week.

I need to get as much of the last broody area done as I can today. This weather is not helping. I'm not going to make the house in the pen, though. I have a place I can put it to keep it dry and have room to work. That way, if I don't finish it today I can work on it even if the weather's bad. I just won't try to do any caulking or painting until I'm able to put it in place.

Well, we needed rain, and now it won't stop! We've have 3/4" all told, which doesn't seem like much for as long as its been raining. I think the cool weather and wet and the horses being on the grass are making them stupid... ugh.
Yay for chicks! That's great!!

Rain sucks, lol. At least when you've had too much of it, it does. We had another 1.11 inches last night. Juuuuust what we needed. But, 'they' say it's going to clear up and that we'll have a beautiful week. I'll believe it when I see it, lol!

Awwwh....how can you take the hen & chicks away from home? But, you may spend as much time at the farm, so can watch them. Hmmm. I just love to watch the little families.

I will be working on a broody grow-out area, too. :) Sounds like you have a better plan than I -- using yours for inspiration.

We have rain in the forecast everyday until Saturday. It's making it very difficult to get stuff done. I cut the floor for the 2nd house today, then took it where I could paint it and it wouldn't get wet if it started to rain. While I was waiting for the one side to dry, I cleaned up in the new parking area. I had a feeling that no one else would do it and I was right. But at least I can now pull in there w/out any problems. Then I took the rest of the wood from that roof that blew in and stacked it w/all the stuff I cleaned up. It looks much better now.

While I was waiting for the other side to dry, I worked on getting the fence up for the last broody area. It was a pain to do and took me much longer than I wanted it to. I had to cut the post since I could only get down a bit more than a foot. Then I hit solid rock. I couldn't find any way around it. I finally got it in and got the fence up. I had wanted to make the door, but didn't have time, so I'll do that tomorrow. I'll also work on as much of the house as I can.

Having fun w/my chickens. That last egg still hasn't hatched. It's been peeping, but that's it. And since I wanted to get the rest of them to the farm, I took the hen and chicks out and got them in the house. At one point, I had to chase the hen that's just gone broody back to her eggs! She wanted those chicks, so flew out of her area. I threw a piece of mesh over her section to hopefully keep her in.

The one that's ready to hatch out on Thursday got kicked off her nest again. And, they damaged one egg. I don't know if the chick is still alive or not. I brought the egg home and stuck it in my incubator. I figure it has a much better chance in there than it does at the farm.

When I got home, I got some trees out of my flower garden. I found some cranberry bushes in TSC last week, so I grabbed a couple. They're now planted in my flower garden! They're supposed to stay low, and spread. I had also bought a fig in March. Hubby finally got that planted. I also washed a load of clothes. They're in the dryer. And I checked on my incubator after putting the clothes in the dryer. Of the 4 eggs I originally had in there, 1 egg has hatched and another has pipped! Anything that's hatched out in the morning and is dry will be going to the farm w/me. I'll sneak them in w/the rest.

I'm just excited that my 2 broodies are sitting the eggs I put under them last night!!

Didn't work on brood pens but did get to remove 3 cattle panels and replace with 2X4 no climb...actually a 100' stretch which included those panels. Need them elsewhere.
