One time, I had put the wire back across a gate, then ducked under that to shut the gate. (I had horses right there, and figured it would be easier than trying to chase them all away.) As I was hooking the gate, I hit the electric w/my head. It knocked me to the ground. At first, I couldn't figure out how I had gotten there, or what I was doing! I've never done that again!

FF that sounds horrid! I've only been shocked once briefly when I stupidly brushed against some electric fence but that was enough.

The worst experience I ever had w/electric was w/an electric light in front of my house when I was a kid. It was one of these lights that people used to have in front of their houses by the sidewalk. I guess it was about 5 feet high. It had a short in it, and my dad hadn't had a chance to take care of it. All of us kids knew not to touch it. Well, the little girl next door forgot. For some reason, she grabbed it, then couldn't let go. I grabbed her, so then the current was running thru both of us. I don't know how I was able to do it, but I was able to peel her fingers off the post and pull her away. Maybe that's why I'm so leery about electric now. Oh, and needless to say, the light was gone that day.

I finally had a chance to ride Misty today! It's the first time I've ridden her all year, but we're supposed to be going on a trail ride on Saturday, and I didn't want that to be the first time I rode her. So, I scheduled a lesson. Figured that way, I knew I'd ride her for sure.

And, she surprised me. In the past when I haven't ridden in a while, she's a real brat and it's not unusual to have to lunge her first. But today, other than checking to be sure that I really meant what I said, she was good. We had a good lesson. I hope to be able to ride her again tomorrow if at all possible.

I went to the nature center tonight for a frog walk. Most of the people there were parents (or grandparents) w/their kids. But, it was interesting. We saw and heard a Fowler's toad, saw a green frog and heard a bull frog. Might have been able to see/hear more, but it was hard to keep the kids quiet. Of course, now that I'm home, I'm hearing even more frogs. We have a lot of tree frogs around here, so I'm hearing them.

Electric for real - NOT electric fence ....

BEER fridge at the lake!!

As children we FEARED the beer fridge, where only bait, beer and our soda pop was kept. It was a 1950 something Philco that kept thing so cold they were almost frozen. But it would bite! Sometimes when you would grab the locking pull handle to open the fridge - zzzzzzzzzah! Your whole arm would tingle. Often at the lake we were fresh out of the water in wet swim suits and standing in our own puddle when we opened that darned door. It would really light you up then!

We told our Grandpa over and over, but he never believed us for years. Of course he was always quiet busy making sure that fridge never contained any old beer. It is doubtful that he would have been able to notice electrocution. There were actual fistfights between my cousins and myself over who had to get Grandpa another beer.

Finally, after years of complaint he slid a piece of cork down on the handle and that helped a lot... I was QUITE satisfied to hall that menace to the dump a few years ago.

I wouldn't have gotten anything out of it! Or, I would have found a way to NOT have gotten shocked. Can't say I blame you for being happy to haul it to the dump.

Thanks! Well, I didn't get to ride today after all. I got to the farm, got Stormy fed and it started to pour! I had a couple of roosters to feed (need to process those dumb things), as well as my chickens. So, I figured I'd do that then go home. Well, one of the roosters escaped! And, I had to do some rooster wrangling to catch him. Needless to say, by the time I had him caught and back where he belonged, I was soaked! So, I decided to go home.

I get in my truck, go to reach for my cell phone, and realize I don't have it! I turn around and go back to the farm. I did put on a rain coat. Then I hunted all over where I was. No phone. I go home, get the house phone go in my truck w/it, and call my cell. No phone. So, I have no idea where my phone is. I hope it's in my tack shed, or I left it at work. If it's outside, chances are, it's ruined.
