It is an interesting and unsettling thing to think about. But, I do anyway- that's why I am learning, learning, learning- to make myself useful in a group if anything horrible did happen. I'm making sure I have desireable skills.

To me the addict is out. He is what we will have to defend against, at least in the short run.

The doctor is unsalvageable without modern medicine to support him, but he will be useful in the short term. I feel bad about any disaster scenario where the medical system goes down because anyone who is compromised will die off, including my SO who is on synthroid. Unless I can learn to harvest thyroid glands from hunted animals.

The 5yo is a short term liability- it will be many years before she will be a productive member of the survival team.

The police officer is a keeper, as far as I can see- not just because my SO is one! young-ish, healthy, and mentally oriented towards protection from others.

I am torn between the white collar criminal and the housewife. Depends, I suppose on what useful skills each one can bring to the group.

So, there's my triage, fwiw.

I would not allow myself to be in a position where government could make the choice of my companions when the SHTF. I am prepared to take care of myself.

Your SO can survive if he grows his own marijuanna...(or gets some somewhere) seriously. I have a bro with no thyroid, his was radiated to depletion 10 or so years ago. He has never taken his meds, but smokes alot of weed, and he is still alive
NOT that I would advocate this in todays society, but if TSHTF then it is better than dying over it

Hmmm.. Wells, let's say I play along.

First, I need to know what is wrong with the people that I am supposed to treat and heal them. My choices would be determined on that - some people are going to heal and respond better to treatments than others. Say I need to amputate a leg - the obese woman might not be as well off as say the 18 y/o.

Secondly - Unless I personally know these people to begin with; how do I know their occupations and health statuses (aside from looking)? The 18 y/o isn't going to come in and say 'I'm a drug addict, will you please help me?' 'I'm a police officer, help me first' (In that case, a selfish police officer)

Third - What classifies the person as a drug addict? Are they on acid, cocaine, or simply weed? People can heal, and if this is a SHFT situation, they might just have to do without.

Fourth - This is a SHFT situation - Where are the woman's children? Is the 5 y/o one of them? Is she even a good mother to them? I wouldn't know!

Fifth - I take it, from the question, that those I do not help will die - depending on the procedure, who's saying that they won't all bite the dust as I'm working on one? And, depending on how they are injured, might others live until more supplies arrives? Surely their are alternatives in medical supplies, I'm no MacGuyver, but c'mon!

Sixth - Given the lack of information, and obvious assumptions I'm supposed to make..
I would say that I'd save the two who could run to me the fastest!

Are any of them reeeeeeeeeally hot?

Well, we all took this differently, and filled in some unknowns whether we should have or not.

We don't know if the mom is now childless or is shlepping them around with her, or if the 5yo girl is hers, or if the 5yo girl belongs to anyone in the group, or how long the doctor has had his heart condition, or what the white collar crime is.

I can say two definites : the addict needs to be catapulted and we can eat the mom if things get REAL bad.

I was talking about this to Stevie. After some thought, I would prefer to save the youngest, after all, they are our future, in a way. I wouldn't hold the addiction against the 18 y/o, after all, he or she could possibly over come that, depending..

But I still say I'd have to go as the Walmart cashier. First come, first serve.

Yes, we really need to know:

Who's hot?
Who's slow?
and who snores the loudest?

Why are the answers important to you?
Are you going to make adjustments to your life according to the majority response?
No importance other than wondering how others would answer this scenario. It is just a scenario.

Making no judgements or adjustments off anyone's answer.

This is nothing about government.
