I'm going to take a different approach.

18 year old drug addict Probably salvageable and should get back in shape fast because he won't be able to get the drugs. Might need him.

65 yo doctor with heart disease Probably need his medical skills for the short term crisis.

5 yo girl beautiful and otherwise healthy Pretty girl always gets saved in the movies. Movies are not real life. She is a short term liability but still has much to give in the future.

30 yo prisoner (white collar) Assuming white collar crime. Still young and assuming strong. Going to need him.

26 yo obese housewife (4 kids) What do you mean by obese. I'm medically obese but I'm active and almost keep up with people 20 years younger than me. Read some of my posts about my summer. She'll get in shape fast because her food intake will be reduced and her activity level will increase.

40 yo police officer (father, husband) I think everyone so far has agreed he's a keeper. He should be in decent shape and his law enforcement skills will probably be needed.

So you can argue for most of them and argue against most of them.

This is nothing about government.
Then who did the assigning?

Let's say that we have a TSHTF situation and you have enough medical supplies and equipment for two people at the community triage unit you are assigned to...the following all enter at the same time. Who dies and who lives and why?
In my world, my first thought isn't to go anywhere looking for someone else to take care of me. It's making sure I have shelter, food and water, and hopefully setting up some kind of heat source. And protecting myself against the kinds of people who would go to community centers and then decide who gets to live and die ! (Not intended as a smartypants comment....)

Scenario is basically *** hit the fan and you are volunteering to help in triage to save your community and be apart of save and rescue....that type of scenario.

Your answer is to forget helping and save yourself then?
That would be acceptable answer.....you do not care who lives or dies in the scenario, you take care of yourself first. (is that right--that can be your answer..lol)

I think the OP wants to keep this apolitical. I wholeheartedly agree.

I see your scenario as less about CARING who lives and dies, and DECIDING who lives or dies.

maybe, maybe not

it is up to the individual responding.....some care about the decision to save 2 lives, some might not

the scenario is pick 2 to survive. How the person responds is their decision based on their own thoughts.

Saying I will not submit to governmental orders that could risk my life and that of my family has absolutely nothing to do with politics. It wouldn't make one eyelash's worth of difference what the political climate is. I simply would not do it. That makes me a survivalist, nothing more.

I knew this thread would take a turn south.

I believe that FC is just curious as to the logic behind what different people would do in a disaster if we were faced with life and death situations and why we would react in a particular way.

That is why she ask for the "why". With the lack of a real life situation and information we can only read into it what we see in our own minds.

I chose 2 for what were to me very logical reasons. After reading others choices - it made me see things from a different angle. Maybe by doing this exercise - regardless of how silly it may seem- if ever placed in a life and death situation I might make better choices.

FC if I am off base here let me know. That is the way I read your question. No judgements are needed.

It seems to be just a curiosity question on how we would react "if" we found ourselves in that situation.
