What, people, have I gone out of style or something? Talk to me! :/

Anyway, had the first calf of the year born today! :celebrate :weee :bun :ya :bun
:weee :celebrate

78 lbs, bull, healthy and nursed right off the bat! Wasn't expecting one this early in the season, but this baby's mother had lost her calf last year, so she came into heat early, I guess! This little one isn't acting like a preemie. Took a bit of wrestling to get him on the scale! :clap

Love the new life in the dead of winter! Got him and mama in a nice warm stall, just in case. :D

Congratulations! What are your plans for him?
Well, he'll keep the fields mowed for a few years, look pretty and bust through the occasional fence, but if all goes well, he'll be in a freezer when his time comes.

cool...we are thinking of getting a couple of angus babies this spring to butcher later. My husband's uncle just sold 3 of his big mama cows and kept back all the youngsters. Where are the pics??? We love baby pics!!! :D

lorihadams, I would post pics, but that's against parental regulations. :/ I assure you, he is CUTE!

It's still cold out, so he and mama are still in the stall, but hopefully they'll go back with the herd tomorrow, weather permitting.

Any tips for a rooster with frostbitten wattles? He sat on a cattle panel out in the elements all night, I didn't even realize he was there. Stupid bird gone kamikaze, stupid unobservant human :(.

I know some people use vaseline on the chickens. But I think that's a preventive measure. Not sure what you do after the fact.
