Our corn was really tiny this year too....I'm thinking we needed some good compost and chicken poo mixed into the soil....if it wasn't so late we may plant some clover in it but we may move our corn patch completely next year to a spot that we planted with clover/chickory/rye mix for the deer for a fall food plot. I figure we could plant the corn in that spot and under seed it with some clover. The bees would thank us too!

Your eggplant looks fantastic! I have never been able to get my eggplants to fruit. :barnie How do you cook it?

Hi I'm originally from New Orleans but now living in Ponchatoula since Katrina. I consider us very lucky despite the fact that she took out our home, husband's job, and a lot of our stuff. We were able to relocate somewhere I like even better. Life is like that sometimes.

Glad to see there is someone else on the forum from home.

Thanks! I pretty happy with them. We slice 'em thin, bred 'em and fry 'em up. I made cauliflower au gratin to go with it. We have probably another 10 eggplants on the bush. :weee

Haven't had anything to post lately. The eggplants are just about done. We have eaten a few more since my last post and their are about 5 left on the plant. Beans are doing well and so are the peas. Garlic is looking nice and this morning I noticed the first cucumber coming in. Baked a loaf of bread in the bread machine today. It just came out a little bit ago and the smell is driving me a little crazy, so I'm gonna go eat some while it's hot!!

I'm grumpy today. Hubby and I had a long talk this weekend about buying a 2 acre piece of land that I found. He pointed out a lot of logical stuff like it's in the middle of nowhere and where would we work (because we'd still have to work) and we really want more land than that and blah blah blah...... I am so ready to move out of the suburbs, but he isn't just yet. He wants to, eventually. I keep telling him that if we do it when he is ready we'll be too old to do the things when want to do. I don't think it's a good idea to START raising cows when your 107 years old. So, there's that disappointment. To top it off, he quit smoking and I went on a diet, so our house is not a place anyone wants to visit right now! :hide Oh, well. Tonight I'm gonna hopefully get to that marmalade I've been saying that I'm gonna make. I think that will cheer me up. I've very much been looking forward to doing that. Also I have some figs that I'm gonna make jam with. That has to be done tonight or they'll go bad. Actually, I think that really will make me feel a little better. Thanks for letting me vent guys. I'm a little frustrated today. YourLinkGoesHere :/

Ooooh those fig jams look so yummy. That tree is about to load you down with more fruit too. :D If you need a taste tester . . . it was worth a try.

Good luck finding the right property for your needs. :fl The right place will be worth the wait. You must have alot of courage. One spouse quitting smoking while the other one is on a new diet should be quite an adventure. You might want to go on walks or do something strenuous, if things start getting tense.

Got up and picked beans and peas this morning. I have 3 eggplants left on the bush that will be ready in a day or two. Still have figs on the tree. Maybe sometime this weekend or early next week I might be able to make another batch of fig jam. That should be it for the figs this year I think. I still have not started on the orange marmalade, but I think I will do that tonight along with the mashed potatoes I have to bring to the Thanksgiving dinner with my family and the desert I have to make for dinner with my husband's family for tomorrow.

Happy Turkey Day everyone!!

Oh my, I haven't posted anything in a while! Still have not made the orange marmalade.........what a surprise. Now I have lemons and grapefruit from my grandmother's trees. I took the day off of work tomorrow. I should be the only one home most of the day, so I should be able to get to this stuff tomorrow. And, in the garden, believe it or not.................tomatoes...............in December. Keep in mind these plants, for whatever reason spent all season refusing to grow. Then at the end of the season they suddenly started to shoot up. I saw flowers on them a couple weeks ago, but figured that since it was so late in the year they would just drop off. I was ready to pull up the plants when I went out to pick the last of the eggplants and whatdoyaknow?............ tomatoes.........in December. I'll let ya'll know if they make it or not.
