:pop So what color is the carpet? :) I'll bet it is going to look nice when you are all done.
It's a sage color, a little lighter than the pic shows. I'm not sure if I want to do the steps or not yet.......

MERIRUKA!!!!!!! OMG your house is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud you for taking the steps to be more ss, that carpet is lovely and it will help you stay warmer which equals lower heating costs. You should be proud of your beautiful home too.

Meriruka, I wouldn't be worried about having people over to your house... it looks stunning!

Your house is what I aspire for mine to look like :thumbsup

Holy smokes! That is gorgeous, I :love the stairs! I don't think you should do them in carpet though. The dark wood steps & banister go so well with the white walls :)

What a gorgeous home, make sure to post more pics as you go along...I am yearning for an old farm house :D

I agree, leave them bare. Much easier to lug a broom or dustmop than a vacuum.

And I say you have NO worries over the character of your house. It doesn't look run-down, it looks well cared for & loved :)
Yay for french doors!

At my house you'd expect to see MA and PA Kettle walk around the corner any second.

I come home with the carpet and I walk through my own house and all of a sudden I see the miss-matched yard sale furniture and auction decorations, all my attempts to make the place nice and it looks pretty pathetic. There's a chicken living in a cage in the kitchen, the sun porch has chicks in a brooder, everything - plants and all- is covered with a thick layer of poultry dust. There's spackled places and incomplete woodwork and the cats are busy throwing up on the one carpeted room I do have. For the first time, I'm embarrassed to live here. OMG, what if they actually come over?
I know this place is a work in progress and people shouldn't judge, but I'm still kinda horrified.

Anyone else ever feel like that?
I have but just for a fleeting moment.

Then I bring those folks on a tour. I show them my fruit trees, and my grapes, I show them my chickens and my latest SS project. I sit them down and fill them up with a great little homegrown homemade extra delicious snack. If it is cold we cozy down by the fire. If it is hot we swing on the porch swing and soak up the flowers.

After we chat for a while I usually end up sending them home with some home canned jelly or some homemade soap. I show them my house through MY eyes and funny thing is THEY are usually the ones that go home feeling deficient and asking me for gardening instructions or wanting soap making lessons.

There is a basic need inside of most people to want the good things we have. They often try to fill up the need with new carpet and fine furniture. Just remember people have a need. They just don't know how. They can't judge you if you show them what it is they are missing. ;)

I didn't have cool old stuff with character and history to it. I had old junk no one else wanted. Believe me, it was not better than new stuff. I never meant to imply that other people's old stuff is junk. some of it is very cool. Mine wasnt'. It was junk.
