It was just that I came home and saw how shabby everything looked, when before I thought it looked nice. I'm annoyed at myself because I know it really does not matter.
but back there i didnt have turkeys to milk, goats to check for eggs, and chickens pooping all over everything.

we get it, meriruka. its ok. go and have a good long sulk then get up and march forward.

:)
so THATS what I am doing wrong!??? I was looking for eggs under my turkeys, and milking goats!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
I finished the hallway carpet and nobody has barfed on it yet, so it's a good day. Can't do the big room because the ground is still wet from all the rain yesterday, so the truck is in the barn still loaded with the carpet.
Another project incomplete. I think that's the most frustrating part -the only completed room is the spare bedroom and I rarely go in there. Every other room needs something done.

I went and looked at some of the 'before' pics of the house when I first bought it and it's really come a long way, it was a nice reminder.
Hey Meriruka, don't be so hard on yourself, most of America is covered in either mud and or snow. Spring will be here soon. Flowers will bloom, gardens will grow...it is hard to stay positive when everything is wet, grey, leafless etc.

We are dealing with a deluge of rain and tons of mud ourselves.

I just swept the open air garage this weekend and we had an enormous wind storm last night and it is filthy again. On top of that another tree is down across my driveway. So frustrating sometimes. :barnie Same with the hay/feed room. I just swept up all the hay off the floor and carried it down to the animals. It looked so nice....for 10 minutes. I'm picky about these two areas b/c my silly house is set up so strange that when guests arrive that is the first place they see after they pull into the driveway. (I think I'll leave the tree down blocking the driveway for a few days! :p )

:pop So what color is the carpet? :) I'll bet it is going to look nice when you are all done.

if those dang turkeys didnt have such tiny little teats they'd be easier to milk... its just work work work all day long. but for the record, almost every day in the goat house there IS an egg.... makes you wonder.....

I got really tired of living with cast-offs and second hand stuff. I would rather have nothing. We had a huge bonfire and burned all of our dog-eaten couches and packing crate bookcases before we moved. So we have no couch and no bookcases, no dining or kitchen table, no coffee tables.

When I can afford it, we will replace the old junk with new stuff. I don't see anything wrong with liking nice things, or having them. Living in a house full of old junk does not make me a better person.

We sure do have a lot of space now!

A lot of the new furniture is poorly made. The well made stuff it out of my budget range. Even if money were no object, I would rather have the old stuff. I actually enjoy refinishing old furniture. Sometimes I set out to refinish something and then never touch it because it has character :D

Feels good to purge, eh? I like to do that once and a while.

New vs. old, hey, to each their own. I love my "Country Living" way of life...it is NOT old junk btw. Lots of my antiques were carved by my grandfather. I keep a very clean house and I would never let my dog just chew on anything.

I don't think any of us are saying we are junky either. Yeah, we are in the process of fixing up our houses and we have lots of projects out in the yard like farm animals, gardens, compost piles, worm bins etc, but that doesn't mean we are junky or have houses full of junk.

Frankly I would rather have a fat savings account than brand new furniture.

I am concerned that you burned your couch(es) though...it is terrible for the environment.

I get a little embarrassed when MIL comes to visit, as she has the nice house, impecable yard, everything is always polished & put away. It's comfy, you can actually sit on the couch, but still very, very nice.
Whereas, I have piles of mulch material around the garden, salvaged wood, windows, barrels & milkcrates in the driveway where it will stay remotely dry, plus a muddy, muddy yard surrounding a singlewide trailer. And I don't do windows.

The house is neat, usually, but still has that shabby, not so chic look going for it.

She never makes a fuss, and once, when I appologized for the mess she simply said "You're working on it, my house looked worse than this when I was your age & had kids at home. At least your floor is vaccumed. You'll get there. Besides, you guys built your own chicken coop from all that stuff. I bought mine for $150. Which do you think is better when you're mostly broke?"

Did I mention I :love my MIL?
