It froze again last night. Covering our plants saved most of them. We had already harvested as much as possible before the freeze. So we are just trying to keep some plants going, in case we get another heatwave.
It was a beautiful sunny crisp day. I spent a good amount of time outside. a former neighbor left without one of their chickens. The lost little hen has been hanging around our flock for many weeks now. Today was the first time she mingled with our flock. I was feeding them seeds this morning and I guess she saw them eating out of my hand and she was probably also very hungry. She came within a few feet of us. One of our young pullets kept chasing her off. I figure in a few more days, she will be part of the flock.
We let the goats out for a while too. they enjoyed running and nibbling on the tomatoes, the peach trees and whatever else. One neighbor gave them cut up oranges another brought over some pine and other brush for them for a thanksgiving treat.
I have a turkey in the oven, the potatoes are boiled and ready to be mashed (SO's part of the job), sweet corn from the garden is ready to be heated, gravy is waiting for turkey drippings and to be thickened with a roux, and the cranberry sauce is cooling in a jar. I still need to make a salad using the last of our tomatoes and swiss chard and I am waiting for SO to make the pie dough, so we can make a blackberry pie.
I got the pants covered up again tonight, just in case. I need to remember to feed my kefir and sourdough still.
It has been another nice day.
