I got home about 5 minutes ahead of a big thunderstorm. I asked the wife to help me get the chicken out of the van. She opened the back van door and reached in to grab the Rubbermaid container holding the cut up meaties and jumped back with her eyes wide open and pale. I asked what was wrong, she then started laughing, and said she had forgotten I had an order of peeps in the van too. She had her mind on the meaties and she thought they were still cheeping.

We had fun listening to the Indians beat Pirates series. :clap
Doesn't look good in Colorado, though. :/

Strange weather we are having. We haven't gotten all the predicted rain up here, but the sky has been very overcast.

Have fun with your meatie project!
We just had a strong storm blow through (now it's too wet to work in the garden). I drove down near Greenwich (west of Lodi) this morning and back. The cloud situation was changing dramatically all morning, guess that air is really unstable. It's almost foggy here now.

That game last night was such a disappointment.

Too funny about your wife and the chicks! In her defense though, I can totally understand!

I kwym about not feeding the meaties and feeling bad. Today I'm cooking the last two guineas I planned to slaughter. No plans to process any more birds for a while, so I don't have to deal with caged-up-waiting-to-die faces looking at me.

Enjoy the time with your wife. :)

I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend!

What's been going on here?
Hot Stove baseball regular season finally done, playoff time! Kids running here and there, and just chasing life in general. :)

On the food front, in between everything else
Have been able to keep the back garden cleaned up for two weeks now. Red beets look awesome, the squash/melons back there have blooms on them.

The big garden is is a struggle because of the lack of huge blocks of free time.
- I just about have the black beans weeded out (I did see a smattering of blossoms)
- my single row of potatoes looks good and is weeded/hilled up
- working on weeding peppers and maters
- Peppers are producing, but the plants look anemic, but lots of blossoms
- 'maters seem to be on their way
- corn isn't going to be "knee-high by the 4th of July", but at least the crows are now leaving it alone.

The latest batch of meaties are approaching 2 weeks now. I'm trying to approach their feedings a little differently right now, and so far so good. :fl This batch is actually acting like chickens instead of eating/pooping and looking like little bowling balls. The 8 pullet layers have finally figured out that I am the "bringer of treats" and now crowd the side of the fencing when I approach.

Scattered thunderstorms today, it's rained twice, just enough to crank up the humidity levels.

Oh, and who says small towns are boring on Saturday nights? This happened about 5 miles from our house.

From the article:

"That's when James Bender of Garrettsville sprung into action from the bed of a pickup truck, even though it was not his horse or buggy.

"The Amish community is a close-knit community and they help each other any way they can," Chief Milicia noted.

As the truck driver kept pace with the horse, Bender leanded over and grabbed the halter and the lead rope. That brought the horse to a halt, ending the ten minute pursuit.

Chief Milicia felt the officers used good judgment allowing the man to get involved.

The horse was not hurt and was returned to its owner."

Jamie are you a farmer AND a horse wrangler?? :D
