Had some for dinner, gave a quart to the elderly folks across the street, made some freezer jam, and are freezing the rest. Probably a pie this weekend. There were 16 pints of strawberry jam hiding in the pantry, so it's gonna be combination berry jams later in the summer as the other berries come into season (and as soon as we can get some mango).
:drool Sounds great!

The two youngest really helped with the picking too, we picked it all in about 45 minutes. They want to go back in a couple of days and get more!!!

It's in one of the cookbooks the wife was leafing through - she didn't mark it or tell me which book. She's in bed, so I'll have to get back to you on that one. :)
Thanks! :)

Crazy couple of days lately, thought I would pop in with a short update

- my remaining 12 meaties hit the freezer tomorrow (1 roo and 11 hens survived the fiasco of our first batch this year with the crazy weather). The new hens are right next to them, I felt bad tonight feeding the hens and not the meaties, they threw themselves against the fence in hunger.

- I'm picking up 35 meatie hen chicks at Meyer tomorrow. I saw on their website the have multiple varieties of laying hens available for immediate shipment. I mentioned to the DW I was tempted to pick up 6 more hens for future egg production, and she said "sure, why not?", you have the demand to sell anything we don't use. Totally blew me away.

- kids are gone for the week, so it's just the wife and me here (and she's working tonight)

The rain continues on and off.

We had fun listening to the Indians beat Pirates series. :clap
Doesn't look good in Colorado, though. :/

Strange weather we are having. We haven't gotten all the predicted rain up here, but the sky has been very overcast.

Have fun with your meatie project!

I must have missed it but what happened to the other half of your meaties?

Enjoy you week of quiet.:love

thanks for the kind thoughts, it's been so relaxing the past few days.

The meaties croaked the two days we had temps near 100. Shade, water, etc, they just keeled over. Unlike OFG, I didn't find out until later in the day after they had been baking in the sun. :sick No salvage there!

I was chatting with the wife of the processor this morning and she said they had a customer that had lost over 60 out of 100 that week. She said that they've done a few batches of rangers and said even though they have less breast meat, they clean and process easier. Hopefully that helps you.

Didn't come home with any additional layers - evidently someone came in yesterday and took all the extras after making a deal. So they had none out on display this morning.

 I love my wife

I got home about 5 minutes ahead of a big thunderstorm. I asked the wife to help me get the chicken out of the van. She opened the back van door and reached in to grab the Rubbermaid container holding the cut up meaties and jumped back with her eyes wide open and pale. I asked what was wrong, she then started laughing, and said she had forgotten I had an order of peeps in the van too. She had her mind on the meaties and she thought they were still cheeping.
