This morning dawns 36 and cloudy. Still not too bad a day for a November 20.
Hmmm... sounds like the beginnings of a good book!

Hurray on the blue egg! So fun, it's hard not to still get excited about little things in life like that.

Hmmm... artichokes. What do you do with them? I can honestly say I've never eaten one. I did just read an article about Jerusalem artichokes though in MEN or Grit and they sounded interesting to me.

So sad about the turtle. Maybe it was sick and the dog could sense it.

Sorry about your allotment garden. But I am sure next years garden at home will be wonderful and have your full attention.

I have an artichoke plant. Came back on its own this year. Last year the gopher ate the roots. Word of caution, they get huge. I have to admit we dip our leaves in Mayo. :hide

Glad to hear you are doing well. My cousin told me about the cold the other day. It's cold here but nothing like what you guys have. Soup sounds good. Have a good day.

I planted 7 artichoke plants this summer and managed to kill 5 of them (not a hard task for me unfortunately). I plan to pamper the 2 remaining ones and see if I can get them to produce next summer. I'm looking for a new product to take to farmer's market. Should I mulch heavily this winter? Maybe even cover the plants (they're about 12 inches tall now) with straw or leaves? Or should I just give up and hope for the best?

I love artichokes! I cook 'em in the microwave, then dip the leaves in butter. Once I get down to the fuzzy part, I pull that off, cut up the heart, and dip that in butter. It tastes great!

Kc, LMK how your artichokes make out. I want to plant some next year.

Can I shell beans with you?? :D That's one of my favorite things!

I planted Speckled Christmas lime pole beans too! I think that's what they were called. They were heirlooms from a friend. I only got a couple pods.. I did Three Sisters and planted all at once, so the corn shaded them too much.. Oh well.. I got more than what I started out with.
This year I've kept all my heirloom beans and peas for more planting next year.

..What is the temp there? You make it sound nice and warm. It's 20F here.
