I've seen dogs do that too. When people say dogs don't have "real" emotions, that is one of the things I bring up in an argument, how could they mourn a death if they do not have real emotions.

I'm so sorry, that is so sad. No way to prepare when it's unexpected like that. I agree that dogs' lives are always too short.

I am so sorry :(
My Rio didn't get to "say goodbye" to Buford, and I believe he mourned for 2 weeks not knowing why I wouldn't go get Buf from wherever he was.

What a heartbreaking loss of a beautiful dog....

Aw, {{hugs}} for your dog. They just don't live long enough and it is always hard, even when the end is quick and necessary. :hugs
