That does sound like a good deal, elijahboy. I royally kick myself when I think back to when butter was on sale at w/m for $1.50 & didn't stock up!!! And now it's $2.88!!!

After I go to TSC this afternoon for the chicken feed, I'm heading over to BJs to see if I can sniff out any deals...usually the only thing I get there is 40 lbs of cat litter for $9.99 (think that'll be going up, too?), but I'm going to check out the butter, flour, & sugar this time...:/

We're doing the same thing. Butter and flower anyway. Maybe pick up a 50# bag of sugar. That will last us a year. Butter freezes ok doesn't it?

hey Gina---is California broke?
I heard stuff about CA having 0 money lol
Ca. never has money. I know I am broke. I guess that's all that matters.

elijaboy... A 5lb bag of sugar here cost close to 6 bucks. But you can get it in bulk much cheaper.

Butter is almost 5 bucks a pound, hey just like bacon. I wonder if they do that on purpose? I can get 4 lbs at the local big box for just under 10 dollars.

I need to get some more gamma seal lids. Anyone know of a sale?

As if the grocery prices weren't enough how about the price of animal feed?

The past year since i got my chickens the price per bag of feed has went up 2 dollars a bag and the rabbit feed has went up 2.50 per bag!

So much for raising cheep eggs and meat! :idunno

Canning jars are going up as well... So raising your own is even costing way more! :hit

That's why I'm heading over to TSC this afternoon to stock up! At least I could get a few months' worth before it gets really bad...Always stock up when you suspect the price of anything you really need is about to go up. :D

On drovers.com, a website for the cattleman industry, I came across this article: Corn, Food and Potential Sticker Shock . It details the relationship of higher corn and feed prices, with coming increases in beef prices.

The article points out "that dramatically higher prices in commodities such as corn and soybeans have not yet been factored into retail prices for food." Also, that the same increases affecting beef, will be affecting pork and chicken prices also.

Another interesting point was that, according to the USDA, 37 percent of the projected total harvest of corn will go into the production of ethanol for fuel. With oil prices edging up to over $87 a barrel, and projected to hit $100 again, there will be more pressure to process even more corn into fuel.
