Not much happening around here, enjoying an Indian summer through the looking glass. Between job 1, job 2, and driving, it seems I'm not out other than the morning dog walk.

Yesterday I kept thinking to myself, something doesn't seem right. Something doesn't feel right... what is wrong? Finally, at 6pm I figured out that I had been wearing my shirt inside out all day! Whew! At least it wasn't anything important...

I had a weird thought as I was walking through the meat section of the grocery last night. Where are all the bones? About the only thing with bones were the ribs... weird random thought.

Then I bought a bag of snap peas for my lunch today. They are so disgusting I can't even eat them. It says they are washed and ready to use but they taste bitter, old, and lifeless. I hate to waste food but I really can't eat them.
Peas are one of those foods that I insist upon sampling before buying. Even at farm stands or the farmer markets, they can go bad even on a long drive home. Not spoiled, but taste and texture gone from sweet to starchy and crisp to wilted. As for the bones it was the same for me last night one store had a sale on pork ribs but when I got there I found that they were boneless 'country' ribs where in the contry do they remove the meat from between the ribs? farther down they had short ribs beef, They turned out to be boneless short ribs. I like to boil down bones to make soup stock...

Thanks for the good info ~gd. I didn't know that about peas and will just refrain from buying them in the store from now on!

 Thursday afternoon at work as I came out of the bathroom and walked down the hall I kept felling something on the back of my leg when I got back to my cubicle I couldn't stand it and reached down the back of my pants . . . a dryer sheet! I had had these pants on since 6:30 that morning and had been to the bathroom more than once and hadn't felt/seen it

One word sums up my life lately. Work. But that's not the word of the day!

Grateful! Working 80 hour weeks leaves precious little time for much other than eat and sleep. It has really refocused my priorities and made me grateful for small things. All the sunshine and fresh air from gardening this summer has turned into walking slowly to the car and gulping lungfuls of air before I drive off. I notice the beautiful leaf on the driveway rather than walking through the park full of trees. I'm savoring two pages of a well written book rather than two chapters before bed. Relishing a lingering kiss before walking out the door in the morning.

Smaller gestures meaning more. The nicest thing someone did for me this week was JP who owns the fedex route that the gallery is on. I hardly see him because he has a driver that delivers for him. Anyway, I got a package and was pulling out the bill of lading and noticed writing on the box. It said "Hey Laura, Hope you're having a great day! -JP"

MIL coming this weekend for a week and a birthday so more business and less rest but then it should be good again. I'm trying to keep up with everyone by lurking but feel like I'm missing much here. Miss you guys and you always bring a smile to my face when I do have a minute to pop in!

Mil back to Oregon! This weekend is the first weekend with my new schedule. I came home from the gallery at 6pm on Friday night, slept until 10pm, got up and left to go to HHHL at 11pm. Watched tv for the first time since January I think. Anyway, now I know why we don't have it! I ended up watching Swamp Loggers and Snow Men unti 2am. Then fell asleep on the couch and left at 7am.

Sat was a great day with MyT Man! We hadn't had just us time in about 3 months so it was great! We went to the farmer's market and got turnips, kale, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. Shared a cup of hot chocolate. Then went home, and I napped. Then we finished the roof of our building that we got this summer and lined up a crew to help us next Sat to put it up on the walls. Beautiful fall day.

Prepped all of our food for today, cleaned out the fridge, and prepped for Kale soup, and another batch of sauerkraut to be started Monday.

Then off to HHHL again at 11pm Sat evening. I will be on shift until 7am Monday morning. Kinda crazy because it's a 32 hour shift. We'll see how long this lasts. Then Monday the plan is to go to bed right when I get home and then have the afternoon for more food prep and errands. So far, I'm liking it much better than my other schedule. No guests so far on my shifts so we'll see how much rest I actually get at night when we're full.

For my b-day last weekend, our neighbor fixed chicken dinner with the best apple pie for dessert. We finished the evening on the patio with a bonfire and smores! Yum! Then they gave us a bushel of apples and I got 1/2 of it dried so far. Hopefully finish up the rest Monday. Also grabbed a shopping bag of various peppers out of the garden. I need to look up how to ferment them. Someone here mentioned it and it sounds good!

Feels so good to get back in the routine of doing some SS stuff!

Walked down to the park shelter with MyT Man yesterday morning at 6:30 am to vote and we had to stand in line for 1/2 hour! It was great chatting with the neighbors. I love that people got out and voted but I also love it when they don't because I figure that makes mine count double or even triple... right?

Well, the big deal here is that our congressional seat will be determined by less than 600 votes statewide. Barr is a local attorney with no prior gov't experience taking on Chandler who was on the House appropriations comittee. I'm guessing this one will go down to the wire.

Made kale soup last night for the first time. Super yummy! Also started a new batch of sourkraut. We also had a couple of neighbors help us and we got the roof on our building!!! So excited! Now it just needs some finish screws and finishing touches and then we can order the gravel for the flooring. MyT Man is fully on board that if things get bad and we can't get out of here next year, his lawn tractors and stuff that he's bought to flip will go and we're getting goats and chickens again! Things will have to get much worse for that to happen but if it does, hopefully we'll weather the storm...

Wow, a half an hour. I was able to get right in. At least people voted.

The Federal Reserve printed up about 600 billion more money so the dollar will go down more. You may get your goats and chickens sooner than you think.

Yup. I think it's smart for anyone to have options right now!

I know I can't have them right now but hope that 1: our personal exit strategy of going back to school and retooling works. 2: If not, that I don't wait too long to get them goats & chickens!

Hey neighbor!!! Did they determine if Barr or Chandler won yet?
