My Daddy played the banjo and guitar. He was self taught on both of them, and played classical guitar well enough for concerts - which he always declined to give, though he went to many.

We used to gather around him a couple of times a week or so in the evening, and wait for him to pick which one he would play, then we would all just listen to what he had been practicing.

I'm thinking he did it just to get some peace in the house because that was the only time my brother and I didn't fight  We all loved it when he would play.

He even had what we called a Turkish banjo - though that wasn't what it really was :D. He brought it back from Turkey when he was stationed there. It got broken in the move back to the states and couldn't be played. It had a place of honor on the wall.

My brother picked up the guitar several years back and taught himself how to play and was very good. He got bored with it and put it down.

I'm not to terribly musically inclined, but I love music and I love to pretend I can sing LOL.

Good luck with whatever you choose, and have fun!!!

Can't you do all three? Why choose...life is short.

The weaving appeals to me. But I'd have to meet some people to show me how. I think there are weaver's guilds, you might see if there is one in your area. When I lived in Los Angeles I knew some ladies that were in one, I went to one of their "shows" and it was extremely interesting.

I've thought about getting an angora rabbit to have something to spine and make into something or weave into something. I need too much instruction however to just jump in and try it (even if I had the money for the materials) but it sounds really interesting.

I think I'll get around to all 3 SD, it's just that even when this job is over, I'll have limited time so this will just be my "next" thing...

It will be enough to be able to be back in church, take care of the yard and garden again, finishing a few projects around the house, and learn 1 thing.

With this job ending, we're not sure what will happen for us financially so we will pencil that out first week of July and that should give us a better handle on our moving date for school. That will be a whole other learning curve again...

Oh man, I was just thinking about what you could do if the angora wool came in that beautiful golden orange color of your current rabbits... :drool

I read that spinners and furriers like white rabbit hair because they can dye it whatever shade easily that they like.

My rabbits have rather short hair. And a "show" coat with this breed is rather coarse. If they are soft, that is a fault. So the culls are the soft coated ones. So far, however, all three rabbits I produced fit the standard nicely. I did keep the female with the deepest orange undercoat color like the breeder showed me was desireable. It is one color brushed one way and another brushed the other.

My friend that was in the spinning and weaving guild, they were into everything done with threads. Embroidery, macrame (sp), weaving on looms, quilting, and using a treadle and making their own yarns to knit and crochet.

I can crochet but not knit, so I'm not sure what all I could actually do with the fibers once I had them. I'd be a little more intrigued with a loom and making some sort of wall hangings or cloth. I've watched navajo blankets being weaved and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to learn to do something like that.

:clap I got all my handwashables done today! I hate doing them and so they end up getting saved up until I HAVE to do them. Then I always vow to keep up with it and not let it turn into a 15 piece marathon again...

But it's done for now!

Yay!

Hubs did most of our laundry today, the kids did theirs yesterday so we've all got clean clothes again. But I do have a few hand washables that I'll need to attend to tomorrow.

Headlines in today's news:

GM CEO is calling for $1/gallon gas tax hike.

China acid spill contaminates water for 1/2 million people

I don't tend to be a gloom and doomer but do you ever just look around and wonder what planet you woke up on?

The GM one really has me scratching my head.
