I"m glad we're getting rain....I'm glad we're getting rain....I'm glad we're getting rain. I swore I wouldn't complain about the rain - so I'm not. But, I did get to go out and play in the torrential downfall this morning. I had to dig a trench, or four, across the new driveway back to the barn. I TOLD the guy he was putting it down too thick and was essentially building a dam(n) dam. Soooooo, after the lightening show stopped I put on my slicker (a total lesson in futility) and boots (that were about 2 inches shorter than the standing water) and waded out with hoe and shovel in hand to dig trenches across the driveway. UGH!!! But - on a happy note - we got RAIN! Between yesterday and this morning we've had about 5 inches and there's another line heading straight for us. Yippee!
DRUMROLL PLEASE.... Official rainfall total today is over SIX INCHES! Woot, woot!
We are now out of the severe drought we've been in this year. I didn't walk out to the pond, but I'm guessing the level has risen at least a foot or so. We're pushing a FOOT of rain accumulation from the last few days. AND guess what folks... this is just the beginning (or so they say). High percentages of rain predicted every day through early next week. After the downpour this morning it's rained off and on all day. We even had a tornado in the next town - pretty rare occurrence in these parts. CRAZY STUFF, lol. Had to change to my tall mud boots - but NOT complaining! Grateful for every inch!
Nope....I don't need anything growing out there either. I have too much to catch up on myself. I wanted DS to go in the barn and bury a man size hole of empty beer and wine bottles to help for drainage, cuz eventually the monster does come. Oh well....one thing at a time.
We did NOT get rain today - and I'm not gonna complain about that either! Tomorrow may be a different story.
Had a pretty busy day today (didn't go to work). I actually did a little house cleaning...vacuumed, emptied the dishwasher, filled the dishwasher, couple loads of laundry... you know.. the kind of stuff that is never finished...it just pauses for awhile.
I worked a little in the garden but OMG it was H.U.M.I.D. I've been bagging my tomatoes. Now, just in case that requires an explanation... Stink bugs tend to rule my garden. They've been scarce this year, but I have seen some in the last couple days. I took a pre-emptive strike a couple months ago and ordered drawstring organza bags... the kind that you can put wedding favors in. I've been putting them around my developing tomatoes - and it BETTER work to keep the bugs off. If it doesn't... I'll be majorly upset. But they do look kinda cute - sorta like a little gift that my plants want to give me, lol.
Pulled a bunch of stoopid weeds too... they annoy the heck outta me. I've got bunches and bunches of purslane in the garden - I've decided to decide that it's NOT a weed anymore. I'm gonna call it a ground cover and leave it the heck alone unless I decide to eat some of it. It's s'posed to be kinda good...maybe I'll toss some in a salad tomorrow and give it a try.
Had to put the last of the butchered meaties in the freezer today. They've been hanging out in the fridge since Monday so it was time to get them tucked away. I weighed one of 'em and it was over 8 lbs! Dat's a lotta chicken.
Had to give the newest mama goat some meds for scours. Not sure why she scoured - but she did so she got some nasty tastin' stuff and some probiotics and now she hates me forever, lol. She used to be tame many years ago - she was one of my show goats. But - she must be senile - she forgot how to lead, she forgot how to stand still, and she forgot how to be nice... the only thing she remembers is how to be a mama goat who is pi$$ed off at me....
DH is gone tonight. He had to go to one of his far-away offices and since he has to be back there tomorrow he's just spending the night. I'm gonna miss my back rub tonight...
But, since he's gone tonight that means I'm gonna drink another glass of wine!
