I know. Last year, if one of the farm chickens hadn't been laying, I would have had to buy eggs over the winter so I was thrilled when one of mine started to lay. Right now, I have 4 laying and I'm thrilled about that.

Thanks ya'll!

Drum roll please..... Today I got 6 eggs. Things are surely turning around. Oh my, roasted pig sounds divine! Last Thanksgiving DH and I spent alone so we had quail and an abbreviated amount of sides. It was simple and yummy! Hope your pig is as good as I bet it will be.

Me too, Deb. I don't think she'll mind!

Now begins the marathon cook-a-thon. I think I'm going to get the desserts done today. Each of my children has requested their own favorite dessert. For my son it's cheesecake, and for my daughter it's a pumpkin roll. Easy peasy for each of them. I've got my taste buds set for something "apple" but still haven't decided what to do...maybe an apple cake with caramel icing? I dunno, but it'll come to me.

Hoping to get some outside projects done today too. Need to try to get some more goats wormed. I've switched to Ivomec Plus this round because I've got some goats, that despite clean fecals, still have pale membranes after being wormed with Cydectin and/or Valbazen. So, it's Ivomec Plus for them. We've had a lot of rain and damp pastures this year and I've seen lots of snails...so my concern is liver flukes. I wormed Red a couple weeks ago with the IP and her membranes are already looking much better - so I think I've got it figured out.

Gotta get started....later taters! :)

come on down girls, lets get this party started. i'll let you know how the piglet turns out. in keeping with the redneck tradition sil is going to deep fry a turkey, I'm gonna smoke the pig and the sisters and their familys are going to bring all the gowiths. ought to be pretty good, my mom was a great cook and passed that talent on to most of her 5 daughters. the only one who is lacking in the cooking department is bringing the rolls, ice and sweet tea, lol and FEM be sure to bring some of that pumpkin roll with you. i haven't made one of those for years and it sounds pretty good.

Oh man, sounds like I shoulda come your way, lol. Five sisters! That must be a blast!

But, we had a great time here with the kiddos and grandkiddos. Goes without saying that way too much food was cooked and way too much eaten too, lol. But, of course, there's still a bunch of leftovers. Putting them to good use, I made a made a great big ol' pot of ham and clam chowder today. Why soup, you might ask? CUZ, I woke up this morning sick.... :( Guess that's my reward for cleaning house, cooking tons of food, and having a blast with the fam...they leave and I get sick. This stinks in such a big way.

But, farm work doesn't get to be put off even if you're sick, right? So, I carried on...fed, gathered eggs, moved hay, (ya'll are seeing the martyr syndrome rear it's head, right?) Okay, enough already!

Got a few eggs, and found a sick/injured chicken stumbling around and weak on its legs. I put it in a cage and made sure it has food and water for now. I'll give it a better look-see tomorrow.

I'm in the midst of building a pallet 'road' across the muddiest part of my barnyard. I'm just so tired of tromping through the mud...

I think I'm gonna go look for a Benadryl now and probably head to bed soon. Hope the rest of the weekend is good for everybody!

I hear ya on the mud. That's why I've been putting stone down in "my" field.
