Funny that you should mention that Bay - DH takes coconut oil every night for his diabetic neuropathy. He takes turmeric capsules too. Part of the issue with my right foot is burning in my last two toes that I suspect is some kind of nerve entrapment. I started coconut oil today - and thanks for reminding me about turmeric. I'll add that to the protocol also. I've been lucky that I've reached my ripe old age of 60 without any ailments. I'd like to keep it that way!

I keep vet wrap at hand and use it to wrap a knee or ankle for support, if I've twisted it. At horse supplies it's 1.50 = 2.50, at pharmacy, the people kind is 4-5.00. Same thing & pretty colors for horses :) I love it self sticks but not to you.

Try that when out. The wrap helps keep swelling down, also.
Sorry you've hurt yourself. Another day off always helps!

I was off today & it rained every time I went out to do anything. Spent most of day on computer...wasting time.:hide

I do have some pretty pink vet wrap out in my vet supply cabinet. I noticed that every time I put on my rubber boots today that it made my foot hurt less... they were kind of tight because of the swelling in my foot - and every time I took them off the swelling came back. Lucky to have a bed that I can adjust by remote control, so like last night, tonight I'll have my feet elevated. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS!

We did in a couple roos this morning. But, I 'forgot' the UT game was coming on so I got started on the deed. Unfortunately, DH remembered the game so we stopped early. :he I did the math and figured out that it's cheaper to feed my dogs chickens than to feed them their premium dog food. So, since I need to cut cull some older birds before feeding them for winter - the dogs are going to enjoy some fresh meat.

Foot was soooo much better yesterday! At that point I had done the rest, ice, compression, and elevation thingy for two days. Felt great! R.I.C.E. really works. I even accomplished a few things while resting... I made Kimchee, and goat yogurt and some laundry, even worked outside in short spurts. Soooooo today I went whole hog at some chores that badly needed to be done. Got a lot accomplished and it felt great! But, what does NOT feel great now is this stooopid foot. Set myself back some because I'm too stoopid to set on my butt (it's impossible - just can't do it - at least not for very long)!

Ok, self flagellation over...

I worked on some small sections of fence in the pig pen and the buck pen. Fairly easy because I was working with t-posts and stock panels so not too difficult to do alone. I added some extra posts to a section of panel that the pigs were popping up and slipping under, moved their gate to higher ground, and added another gate to a different spot in the buck pen. I find that the older I get the more I like gates, lol. Who wants to walk around when you can walk through?

This cooler weather (YIPPEE!) is great for getting things done outside - but it is NOT so great for 6 month old LGD's in training. Cowboy has been feeling his oats and acting like a dumb puppy. He is now wearing a shock collar and he IS a fast learner. I need to pop over to BYH and pose a question to SBC.

Tomorrow - assuming I can walk I want to finish the farrowing area for the sow. No rush really, but Id like it done. She shouldn't be due until Nov. 3rd - ish. So, I may put it off if the foot is still bad tomorrow. Podiatrist apt on Monday... yippee... not.

Need to find food now. Happy Saturday ya'll!

I couldn't help myself, lol! Weather was too nice NOT to be outside. Got a little done today - but not as much as yesterday. I managed to sit and watch the Texans win! Afterwards I administered copper to most of the herd. Have a couple of the sly, wily ones that I still need to catch and abuse, lol. I hate a goat that outsmarts me! But other than normal chores, that's the only extra stuff I did.

Back to work tomorrow after a short week last week... but, doc apt tomorrow afternoon so it'll be a short day at least.

Foot is still an issue. Saw the doc on Monday. X-rays were fine, so no breaks but I didn't expect there to be. Foot still had some swelling from the strain so she was hesitant to try to do anything but guess at a diagnosis until the swelling goes down. Something like not being able to tell if the swelling is from the strain or from whatever else is going on... makes sense I guess. So, I'm on a prescription anti-inflammatory and go back in two weeks. If it's still painful she's suggesting an MRI - ugh.

Soooo, got some cabbage plants in the ground - yippee. Need to get my broccoli planted too. Need to clean out some beds so I have a place to plant them. And, rye grass seed...need to get that out, but like I said somewhere earlier - we've still got such lush grass that my broadcast method of planting might not do much good. Usually, by this late in the year the grass has been grazed down low and the rye gets a good start.

They baled the field that I get hay from yesterday, so I need to try and catch them out there and pick up a few more bales.

I love my pigs - they'll follow me anywhere for a kernel of corn. So, I put them in one of my garden spots and let them do a little rooting for a couple days. I need to get in there with the tiller and kind of level it out some, but I'm always amazed what they can do with their nose!

DH saw a new endocrinologist the day I saw the podiatrist. They're trying some new meds and one of them is a diabetic med, but it helps with weight loss. He's lost about 4 pounds in three days. Hmmmm, some of that med might come up missing, lol!

As soon as we have a real good cold front I'll be thinking real hard about getting rid of one of the boars. Having a bit of a dilemma choosing which one to harvest. One is quite a bit bigger than the other, and on the surface looks like the best choice. The smaller one however is the boar-iest...if that makes sense. He is the one that broke out and bred the girls so it makes sense to keep the other one for the next breeding since he won't be the father of any of the retained girls. But, really - if the piglets go to slaughter - who cares if there was linebreeding? I do it with my goats all the time... However it works out - I'm looking for some home grown pork in my freezer!

Same here...don't register pigs and since I butchered both boys, will need one for next yr. If I breed again -- not sure as I am not sure I "want" to keep them once freezer is full. But, a related boar wouldn't be a real big deal, as all go to butcher. The meat has been great!

I found about 8 - 10 volunteer tomato plants yesterday! Woohoo. I think I may dig & pot, may get a few tomatoes if our winter is mild. They can stay out here for another couple months with just a cover on some nights. HOPE to get some cabbage, kale & collards out for me in next week. Depends on what Matthew does with out weather.

So try to rest that ankle. Did she suggest keeping compression bandaged? That has always helped when I've sprained mine. If for no other reason than stabilizing while I didn't stay off of it. :hide Animals just hollared for feed:idunno

@Mini Horses - Now that you mention it - she gave me a slip on compression bandage that goes around the arch of my foot. It feels great when I'm not bearing weight on it....I think it's a little too tight when I'm up and walking, or maybe it's supposed to be. I keep forgetting to wear it to work....argh!

Well -------------- if it hurts badly enough :hide Just saying, that's often when I remember my wrap. It does help. I put the vet wrap in a figure 8, arch & ankle, then couple more around ankle & up leg couple inches. Last set up was knee.

I'm good now!
