It's so good to hear you enjoying yourself so much over there :hugs Sometimes a few hours of hard work outside with things we love can do wonders for the soul!

I AM, I AM enjoying myself. It's hard tiring work and I'm dirty and stinky again! But, I don't care. I've gotta go back to work tomorrow and I'm sporting a very good tan and some new callouses on my hands. Oh well....I'm not out to impress anybody!

Spent some time walking around stomping seeds in the ground where I tilled up one section of buck pen. Had to or the stoopid chickens woulda snatched them up as fast as they could. I got another area tilled. I didn't kill myself - just tilled it lightly. I'm gonna put okra and corn out there along with some melons and more winter squashes. Might put in some Lima beans too. I'm not really sure why I'm gonna plant limas... mostly because we love them...but I've never had luck growing them here. The plants do well, but they don't produce very well. Only maybe one or two little pods per plant and that's it. Hardly worth the effort - but I'm gonna try anyway. I've been rushing for two days to beat this weather system that's due tonight. Supposed to be a doozy(!) with high winds and possible hail and tornadoes. Hope they're wrong...we don't have tornados often around here so I'm more worried about hail. I will be so annoyed if hail happens and tears up what plants I already have up. GRRRRRR!

Running out of time so back to it!

I wish it would ever get dry enough here to get anything done in the garden and yard.

I was rushing around like a total CRAZY today because we're s'posed to get nasty, bad, dangerous, yucky weather tonight. So, I got tons done and I lived through it! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger??? It might notta killed me but myself is really annoyed with myself for working so hard.

I did get LOTS of stuff done. I have just about every place in my garden planted except the middle where I've got tools and tubs and stuff stacked. I planted several things that I've never planted before so I'm anxious to see how/if it turns out. I planted okra, corn, some different kinds of winter squash, cantaloupe, RED RIPPERS (yay), black beans, yard-long red beans, lima beans, and mammoth sunflowers. Still have lots of mulching to do, but other than that, nothing left to do but wait! Woo Hoo!

Did my least favorite goat chore today and disbudded the remaining three bucklings. Geeze, I hate it almost as much as they do. But, gotta be done....even though I pondered on just selling 'em with all their original equipment.

Back to work tomorrow... ugh. But, in six more weeks we start having Friday's off. It's our summer treat - for about 3 months we have a four day work week.... sorta. Our department will run our 6 week summer program for 5 days a week... but we'll get comp time for those days. And, comp time is time and a half, so for the 6 Fridays that I'll work - I'll get 9 days off. I'll take it!

Winding down and ready for bed. I'll be getting up early tomorrow to get my stuff done before work. Ugh. Have I said lately that I want to retire?!

Retirement is good. One of the best parts is no alarm clock, followed by, if it is terrible weather, I don't have to go to work in it.

"Retire" FEM? You'll be working just as hard at home, but enjoying almost every second of it! :)

I wish it would ever get dry enough here to get anything done in the garden and yard.
If I wait for "dry" I'll be waiting for the rest of my life! lol I feel your pain though.

Retirement is at least 22 months away and that's only if I retire on the exact day I reach my 80pts. Of course, we will be getting a new director soon so who knows what will happen? We are interviewing SIX candidates tomorrow and I'm not totally hopeful. They are required to have a Masters degree but two of them have an Ed.D.s. While I applaud them for that accomplishment I can't help but think they are overqualified for this job and will be looking at it only as a stepping stone. And, 4 of the candidates would have to re-locate to take this job. I dunno...

Anyway.... for all my hard work in the garden over the long weekend, and near about killing myself yesterday in advance of the big storm - we got nuttin'! Not a drop of rain - but we did get some really cool weather this morning and a brisk breeze. The other thing I got was sick - ugh. Woke up in the middle of the night dizzy and nauseous. I was a couple hours late getting to work but I had an important meeting that I had to get to so I sucked it up and went in. I think maybe I got a bit dehydrated yesterday. It was hot (I know - that's a word a lot of people have not heard this year!), but it was in the mid to high 80's with high humidity and a heat index around 92 - 93 degrees. I guess I didn't hydrate enough and I paid for it all day today. In fact, I came inside to take a break after only doing about half the afternoon chores. Still gotta get back out there and along with regular chores I need to get some water on to the newly planted seeds. I sure have high hopes this year for a generous garden - hope I'm not disappointed later....

We went to Livingston yesterday and driving back we got slammed by that storm. At Lufkin, it was like a blizzard whiteout. We could barely see the road, wind was blowing our car sideways, it was a STORM! We drove out of it between Wells and Alto, drove on home and just like you, got nothing. :\

Hope you're feeling better today, FEM. Our weather forecasts didn't deliver much except cold, it was below freezing last night, but dry, thank goodness. I think I had it with storms and crazy weather for awhile now.

Better today - thanks!

Work was an interesting challenge today. We are interviewing for a new director for our program. We had seven, (I thought it was six but nope - seven) skype interviews. Oh my goodness! What a long day asking each candidate the same set of questions over and over and over. We are required to keep a level playing field so we have to ask the same questions of each candidate. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! We narrowed the field of seven down to 4 that we will ask back for face to face interviews. JOY! But, since we are looking for a new boss this is an IMPORTANT process! The program has basically run with the same 3 employees for 10 years. We need to find a new person that can come in and do things our way, lol!

Conan is driving me CRAZY! He's getting just a little pushy. He wants his bottle and he wants it when he wants it and when it's empty he gets pi$$ed! Yesterday he was pushing at me so I took my foot and placed it on his shoulder and pushed him away. I did NOT kick him! But, he bowed up at me like he was really gonna butt me. What an ingrate! Just so happened that I had a water hose in my hand so Mr. Conan found out that a stream of water in his face isn't so much fun. Let's say I think he learned his lesson. He's gonna be a big guy so I can't have him being a butthead.

I'm happy, happy, happy! While I worked myself to the bone trying to get the garden in before a big forecasted storm that didn't happen, I can say that sometimes things work out the way they're supposed to. We didn't get the storm but we've had a soft, gentle, on and off rain for about 4 hours now. Nothing hard, no run off, just a soaking rain. Couldn't ask for anything better for my newly planted seeds. YAY!
