Ah, thanks @sumi. I'm ok and dad is getting more accustomed to the idea. He's a tough old bird so he'll do ok.

I'm taking the third day of my 'bereavement' time and DH and I are going to go to the movies in a little bit. We're going to see "A Quiet Place" and I'm excited - love horror movies!

Nothing much exciting happening on the farm - except - watching the garden grow! We're eating LOTS of tomatoes (yipppeeee!!) picking a few green beans, eggplants are blooming, okra is growing, peppers are producing and all the different types of winter squash are commandeering any space in the garden they can find. They are on the fence, over the fence, taking over the bean patch etc.... Only thing that's not doing great is the zucchini and summer squash. What's up with that? The zucchini plants look awesome, but most of the fruits are afflicted with blossom end rot. I keep adding calcium via diluted milk but while it's helping when I do it - it would need to be done daily I think to keep them producing. My yellow squash has a mosaic virus. Thinking about pulling them all up and starting over in a new area. But, the tomatoes are out-doing themselves! I've been dehydrating quite a few - they're great to just munch on or drop in a soup.

Conan is now living with the big bucks. I have separated all the baby bucks from their mamas and he was just too rough on them. I thought the big guys would settle him down some, but he harasses them as much as he did the little boys! Can you say testosterone overload?!

Hopefully, I can list the little guys on Craigslist in a day or so and move some out over the weekend? That would be nice! This kind of weather (HOT) makes me want about ZERO animals to take care of.

DH learned a hard lesson the other day with his quail. He had mentioned that they were going through all of their water every day and I suggested he might want to add some extra waterers to their pens. It got to 97 degrees the other day and when he went out there were empty waterers and several quail that had died. I kinda chewed on him a little bit and he felt horrible so I eased up. But, I told him that's not the kind of mistake that he can continue to make.

I've added extra waterers to the female pigs pen almost every day for the last week. (Boys are running loose with access to the pond) I've been out several times a day to check and to hose down the pigs since I've had a few days off combined with a weekend. They've got a nice big ol' bog made in their pen that I fill up with water every morning so they can roll around in it all day.

We're dry, dry, dry. We've had a chance of rain for a couple days now - but a big fat nothing wet fell from they sky.

Gotta get busy ... we've got a movie to get to!

ENJOY your movie! :)

You sound well centered. Release the stress and worry about your squash! Wish MY tomatoes were old enough to give me fruit but, waiting as patiently as I can.

And life goes on. I remember being devastated when my grandfather died. Life continued on all around me and how DARE anybody smile and laugh as if nothing had happened! But life does go on. We stop long enough to grieve, then continue forward, saddened for our loss. Memories are a comfort and a curse. We live our own lives, shaped by those who went before us, around us and through us. We shape the lives of those around us in the same way, but different, in our own way. We love and laugh, we live and someday, we leave those who love us.

We did enjoy the movie - I highly recommend it if you like thrillers!
And life goes on
It definitely does.

I found out that on the same day that mom passed one of my former students was in a horrific motorcycle accident. This kid always wore a helmet....except this time. And, he ran a red light.... :( He was Life-flighted to a major trauma hospital in Houston and is in ICU on life support for a brain injury. I don't want this to sound horrible when I say it - but I think I've shed more tears for this kid than I did for my mother. She was ready to go - wanted it - asked for it and it was her time. I was joyous for her when she went. I am heart-broken for the young man whose life has been forever changed.

No, it makes sense. So much more sad with young people who didn't get to live out their lives. DH's best friend died in a motorcycle accident at 21. 16 years ago. He'll never quite get over it.

I do know what you mean.... Maybe this one hits home because I lost a childhood friend the same way. Same way...:( My childhood friend was in a coma for around 3 years. HIs family tried to keep him at home as long as they could. It happened to Sam when he was about 13...and during that time his body continued to grow and mature...but his brain never recovered. He was finally moved to a nursing home where he died several years later. It is something that you never forget. I think it was the first time that I understood mortality.

Sooooo, Conan is a bad-a$$, lol. I put him in with the big bucks cuz I thought they'd settle him down. Uhhhh - not. I think he's answered the "do Kiko's breed year-round" question. I think the answer is that Conan would breed anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Yikes - what have I done? My girls aren't helping the situation any at all. They go visit him at the fence line pretty frequently. Silly girls!

Nigi doe is progressing. I'm still watching her udder.

We need rain....sounds crazy to admit that. But we do....Ugh.

Garden is stressed...I'm watering but trying not to burn out the well pump!
