My family boiled crawfish Saturday and by evening, DH had a swollen tongue. With all his cardiac issues, I didn't want to just pull out the benedrly, so I called the cardiologist and they Okayed it. We normally eat seafood on Fridays, but DH wanted it Saturday too. Well, he complained that his mouth feels funny lately when he eats some seafood, so I'm wondering if its mainly shellfish. I might be a little more limited on what all I can cook on Fridays from now on.

I think after yesterday he wants to stay far, far away from seafood, lol!

Rhoda - My DH has a cardiac stent, so of course that's where our heads went to at first. But, other than a tightness in his chest and being short of breath (both of which could be cardiac symptoms) he had no other symptoms that made us believe it was cardiac based... no nausea, no actual pain in chest, neck or arm like his previous cardiac issue.

The biggest clue in my mind was his bright red face and he said he felt 'tingly'. When he had a previous cardiac episode he had NO color in his face - except gray. When he had a previous allergic reaction his face was bright red...an I mean BRIGHT RED, lol! So, I was kind of going by his previous history too.

You were smart to call the cardiologist. And, you've answered another question for me - I wasn't sure if crawfish qualified as an actual shellfish and would cause a reaction. Based on your DH's reaction I guess it is. "crossing crawfish off the list of acceptable foods" :( He also loves escargo... they do have a shell but they're a snail - so we're not sure about those. Just to be safe I guess we'll take them off the list too.

Well, it's lunch time - think I'll go eat some shrimp, lol!

What was I thinking????

I just won an ebay auction for Jubilee Orpingon hatching eggs! I'm excited -they are beautiful birds. But, do I have even one single pen to put any more chicks in? Nope, lol. But wait - it might be bad luck to count those chickens before they've even hatched! The eggs aren't even here yet - I just paid for them a few minutes ago.

The only reason I even gave thought to buying any eggs is because I'm selling some eggs. I sold a dozen hatching eggs last week and I've got an order for 8 days worth of eggs from both my Coronation Sussex and my Black/Lavender splits and Lavender Orpingtons. I figure those two breeds will lay at least 5 dozen eggs between them - at $30 dollars a dozen... It more than covers what I payed for the Jubilee eggs. And, I was gonna fire up the incubator again anyway. So, I'm looking forward to mybe having a new breed! And, I just love Orpingtons - they are a great breed. Big enough to be dual-purpose and wonderful layers that will go broody too.

Got a call from DH today while I was at work. He worked from home today and at my request went out to check on the heavy pregnant goats. He thought one of 'em was in labor. I don't blame him for thinking that...she's huge, she was panting and cearly miserable. Her bag is bigger than it was yesterday and her ligaments are very soft - but the 'official' due date isn't until this weekend. I'm not 100% sure she'll last that long though - but I've been surprised before.

Stay tuned!

hopefully she's gonna pop all on her own in just a day or so. In fact, I've started a more intensive baby watch. I'll be going home at lunch today for a quick look-see. Her official due date isn't until Saturday.... AND...I've got to work Saturday. What day you think she'll choose to deliver???? Ummmm.... probably Saturday! Ugh. DH will be home, and he IS a nurse so he's gonna be on baby watch if she doesn't go before then.

Ain't gonna be no triplets...:( I just lost my girl.

I went out to check on her and put her in her pen for the night. I gave her a little feed and went to put the bucket up in the feed room. I looked over at her pen and saw that she was choking. I ran into her pen and tried and tried to help her. I stroked her throat, I put my fingers down her throat, even resorted to thumping her chest but she went down. I tore out of her pen, ran into the house, grabbed the knife, told DH I needed help and ran back to the barn. A minute tops.... Flipped her on her back and cut. Got two babies out of her but could NOT revive them. :(

When I noticed her choking, I probably spent about a minute trying to help her move the blockage, a minute running into and back out of the house and probably 20 seconds cutting and digging for babies... I really thought I'd be able to save the babies. I pulled one and handed it to DH, pulled another one and worked on it myself....I don't even know if there was a third. There was no need to try since we couldn't get the first two going.

I can't tell you how many times I must've told DH that "I can't believe this".

I'm so sorry you lost them! Sounds like you were thinking fast though and did all you could.
