Tomorrow is our first Friday of the summer off! Yay! College is supposed to be closed every Friday between now and mid August...except for, guess which department? We will work all of the Fridays in June - but we'll get comp time for them, so it's really not such a terrible thing.
I WILL take some time and I WILL get some chickens moved. I will I will, I will! Might just give up on the in-ground garden and move chickens in there. But, we're drying up well and I went out without boots today so I might give it a bit longer and see if anything recovers. In the interim, while I'm waiting, I'll plant some more tubs. Wonder how many bean plants I can get in a 30 gallon tub, lol?
Tub veggies are doing well after I put barn gold into them. That stuff is awesome! Tomatoes agree!

It will happen @baymule ! I only have a few tomato plants in tubs - and a couple volunteers in the ground. Less than 10 plants altogether...compared to my usual 30ish. Oh well.... Hope that when I retire I can come up with some kind of screenhouse as opposed to a greenhouse. It's been in my head for a few years - just need to get it out of my head and onto the property!
Lotsa stuff to do today - best get to it.

Whew - long, but productive day. Started out cleaning up around the blackberry infested fence line behind the raised beds and planting tubs. My son gifted me a new push mower for Christmas and today was the first day I got to put it through it's paces. It worked hard and things are looking better. Then I got on the rider and got the rest of the front, side and back yards mowed. Moved on to tree trimming next. Goat enjoyed my labors. In between times when I came in to get a drink several loads of laundry were done, dishwasher unloaded/re-loaded. Goats fed and milked. Chicken and pigs got something to eat too.
Have to work tomorrow - but not a bad deal. We're taking the students to tour Nasa and then we're going to Main Event for food and games as a end of school year treat. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday if you've gotta work anyway.

Gosh -- what a productive day!!!! We don't get many of those, right? 
So often "something" interrupts the project you are on but, seems your crew all laid low and let you accomplish. It's good for the soul!
The field trip sounds great. Enjoy it.
Hate that your DH is looking at so much surgery. HOPEFULLY after the events it will prove to be such an improvement that it will have been worth the discomfort. I suspect there will be an amount of "therapy movement" to restore the muscle use in those hands. Hands are pretty important -- so are his eyes. I can see that it would be depressing for him (and you). Hoping you both get excellent results from all the doctoring you're getting.

I sure hope the upcoming surgical adventures cure what ails him. And yes - I'm sure there will be months of physical therapy...one hand after the other. sigh... We're both tired of it but some things you just can't ignore. Eyes and hands are pretty important!
It was a long day but a good day. Everyone came home exhausted. Not a bad thing considering I'll get a great night's sleep tonight! Rain is in the forecast... I've been back in shoes instead of boots for a couple of days. Not really gonna stress either way. If it rains I've got inside work to do - if it doesn't I can do more outside.
I need to start stocking up on hay. I refuse to try to get through the winter with only 3 large rounds when I needed double that much and then some. I generally don't feed much hay except during winter, but I almost always need a little year round. The bucks don't have much in the way of browse/graze in their pen so I'm always tossing out some hay for them. I'm down to two square bales. Yikes! I'm thinking I'll be off a few days next week and I might go pick up some then. I've seen some decent hay (I hope) for $50....big 1100lb rounds. I can only haul 3 at a time so I'll have to make several trips - but I almost feel like if I don't get 'em now I might regret it.

Haha, our son in law's 6th grade class is going to NASA, leaving 4 AM Tuesday morning, getting back late Wednesday night. Oldest grand daughter is in his class, our DD is going as a chaperone. So we will be keeping the 2 and 4 year old girls Monday night through Thursday morning. We love it!

Nasa puts on a good tour and they have overnight camps that the kiddos can participate in. However, I'm not spending the night there, lol.
Feel the need to get more planted. I'll be digging out some more barn gold today to go in the tubs. Not sure what I'm still going to plant but I will be putting seeds in dirt today! Going to have to concentrate on hot weather plants at this point. I've got okra up but need to figure out where I'm going to put my Red Rippers.
Does any one else plant some things out of pure emotion? One of my best friends in the world turned me on to Red Rippers. She passed over 20 years ago but I plant those every year and think about her when I do. It helps that they are awesome and very productive!

I think we ALL plant from pure emotion -- love & hunger? Something. I mean, a garden is so demanding and can be so rewarding -- if you are able to begin 
It's often a "chore" we have a love/hate relation with -- right? Yes, I plant golden bantam corn because DGD did. Even if it doesn't do well, IF I plant at all.
