I might like volunteer plants more if I didn't have tons of volunteer tomatoes take over my garden at times!

We used to get volunteer tomatoes when we lived in California. Here I mostly get volunteer pigweed and lambsquarters.

Bindweed is a member of the morning glory family. And, from what I've heard, it can be almost impossible to get rid of!

For the pigweed, I've found that mowing and pulling it seems to get rid of it.

LOL, I'm working on it!

Thankfully, the bindweed didn't make its appearance until the spring garden was pretty well spent. Now, its just kinda there, hanging out, fooling me with them purty purple flowers....thinking about letting the goats at 'em. That'll teach 'em!

Things... things have gone from worse to worser. Mom is... just ... How do I say crazy without saying crazy? Upon further investigation it appears that she may have been the victim of a scammer. She has been buying silver coins for decades, thinking they would fund their retirement. I'm not even going there with what I think about that. Let me just say that I believe diversity is the key to retirement investing... and having a good investment counselor is a good thing too. BUT - like I said - she invested heavily in silver coins. Unfortunately, the silver coins are now MIA. She swears they were stolen.... by my brother. OMG!

My brother has spent the last 15-20 years helping them do everything. From yard work, to shopping, to car repairs, to house repairs, to running their errands, to driving them to each and every appt they've had to cooking their meals... I can't even name everything he's done for them. But - she is convinced that HE was approached by scammers and because of this - he stole their silver.

The saddest part of this is that every story she tells has some basis in a past occurrence in her life. We suspected she had been taken advantage of by a man who sold them their walk-in whirlpool tub. He charged them 17K for this tub and according to most folks it should have cost in the neighborhood of 10 - 12K... but not more. Also, my mom and this salesman continued to talk for at least a year after she bought the tub. We know this because of her phone records. At one point she texted him at midnight saying "I miss you!" An 83 year old woman sending a text that she conned me into teaching her how to do. She even called him when we were taking her to the hospital for her suicide threats. She called him and lied to us about it. I truly believe that this man was instrumental in the disappearance of the silver coins.

She told all this to my aunt while threatening to call the police on my brother for theft. Then she wanted my aunt to take her to the bank to get a new will. HUH? To the bank for a will? Oh dear.

I've checked into getting a court-ordered guardianship but have been advised that I may spend anywhere from a minimum of 5K to an average of 8K to just try... and it may still be declined by the court. Also, even getting a guardianship won't mean that I can 'force' them to go into assisted living or a nursing home. They still have rights.

In other news - there is a definite possibility that DH will lose his job. And ya know what? I DON'T CARE! (nor does he) Not anything that he did, but being the director makes him responsible for what his peeps do. And, one of his peeps screwed up royally...and eventually this nurses screw-up will probably be his demise in this job.

However, there was a little good news today. We got a $300+ check in the mail for a medical bill that resulted from his car accident over a year ago. The wheels turn slowly - but at least they turned and we have a little mad money! I think we'll totally blow it on something selfish and frivolous.

Despite all challenges - God is great and we will get through everything.
