Whew...what a weekend.

Friday night started out with too many margaritas with friends of ours. Too many. Saturday morning was not good but I managed to help Big G bring the trash to the dump, clean the fish bowl and sit in the truck while he went to an estate sale. $60 later he comes back to the truck and backs it into their drive way.

Uh-Oh.

In my stupid abcense he'd purchased about 3 boxes full of tools along with 6 organizers full of little teeny tiny nails, screws, nuts, bolts, etc. I'm talking teeny. Now we've got 6 of these storage compartments that had to take up residence in the milk barn. Sigh....

But the day got a lot better when Big G went and cut a field down the road for hay. It was exciting! Our first time haying! I cleaned out the goat barn while he was away and mowed the lawn.

Sunday he spent mowing the next field over and then teddering and raking the smaller field. We ended up baling a really small peice about 7 pm when all of a sudden BAM. It didn't sound good. The knotter on the baler went and the whole thing was jammed up. It's a used baler, but still. We ended up getting 18 bales, which was good, but the baler is unusable now.

Today Big G's going to the tractor place and getting a new baler. I told him to do what ever makes him happy but I just want to cry about it all. He's going to try fixing up the old baler, but we need something that's reliable because we have to bale the fields we mowed by tomorrow then bring all the equipment to my grandmother's place 20 minutes away to cut those fields. And then we've got to do 2nd cutting and maybe 3rd....

Sigh....

Well, poor Big G. The two balers he wanted to look at were both sold today. :(

They have another older model, so they offered to let him take it today, use it and decide if he wants to buy it or not. This actually works out great for us because we can bale the fields we cut this weekend and if we don't like the baler, give it back and get a new one before we head to my grandmother's fields.

Ugh....my head hurts.

In other news, I'm gearing up for another craft show on Saturday. I've got tons of soap I need to wrap so I told Big G he'd better get his scissors and glue ready 'cause I'm gonna need some help. I have to print up more soap labels, too which puts a big drain on the toner. Maybe I'll sneak that into work time...hmmm....

It's at Lisa's Chocolates on Butts Bridge Road, right off Rts 12 and 169...the physical address is 195 Butts Bridge Road, Canterbury. It's where Josie's General Store used to be.

I'll be there from 9 - 3 and there'll be a bunch of other crafters as well as antique people buying/selling/appraising antiques.

We baled about 215 bales yesterday with the borrowed baler. It worked well - gave Big G a few issues but nothing major. It's well within our price range so Big G's going to use it again today and think about asking them to fix some minor things, replace the knotter and some bolts and stuff and if they say yes we'll buy this baler and keep the old one for parts or try to sell it.

We had our friends and their 2 young kids help us. Our friends, J and T loaded up their truck and trailor while the 3 kids (little g, little t who's 6 and little l who's 7) helped me load up my truck and trailor. It was hilarious. Each kid would run to a bale and attempt to push it to me at the truck, end over end.

Some quotes from the kids:

"This is how farmer's do it"
"Yeah, farmers help other farmers"
"Wooooo Weeeee it's hot out here. This farmer needs a drink" Oh - maybe that was my quote.

The highlight of their evening was when I found a snake that Big G had killed and baled up. Pretty gross if you ask me, but they thought it was awesome.

Today we've got to bale about 300+ bales so we've got reinforcements coming. That means that I get to cook for about 10 people and I don't have to help load up trailors. I'm very much OK with that! I took out some venison cubed steak and I'm going to make my famous venison cordon bleu for everyone. My friend J is going to help me since her husband (T) will be at the field helping Big G.

Then it's a break for a few days, prep for the craft show and as soon as the sun comes back out (it's supposed to rain Wed - Sat) we've got to bring the equipment to Grandma's place and do it all again.

Wow, sounds like you will have a few very busy days! I miss baleing hay. As a kid I was always on the flatbed, where the square bales dropped, and me and my sister were "stackers" Hard work for a kid, but great memories. Now, I just BUY hay! LOL

Big G's grandfather came out and "helped". The man's 84 years old...you'd think he'd rather sit in his easy chair and relax - NOPE. He was so excited that we decided to get into haying he couldn't contain himself. He knows his stuff, though, so he helped Big G figure out some of the issues that came up.

Awww, I bet it made the old guy feel useful to be of help. That sounds so ambitious, doing all that hay. It sounds like you have been really busy.

What a busy few days it's been! I won't bore you with all the details, I'll just show you pictures. There's some of Big G on the tractor when we were haying and some of the craft fair I was at today.

I'm so jealous of your soap, your booth and your wrappers. I wish I could do something like that.
