Creep carefully. It stinks out there!
Email when you can. I'm here when you need me. If you just need to vent, call. :)
So glad his day went better. DS's did here too. Was talking to a classmate's mom. Her son is now doing some sort of physical therapy that seems to be helping him so we may look into that.

I'm thinking you're home and without a computer for today. Are you as buried as we are?? I'm officially sick of it all!

You were right - home without a computer :(

Gosh - this weather is getting old.

Poor chickens are so tired of being cooped up 24/7 and the goats were hollering at first light because their hay feeder was empty. I shoveled a path for them while Big G (DH) plowed the drive way and I let them out so they could stretch their legs in the places that had already been plowed. I noticed that the copper bolus I gave them a few weeks ago is kicking in. Little Duke - the nubian buckling - has a good winter coat now and is turning jet black. Very little red remains and his fish tail is almost gone! :)

We completely lost the green tarp shed. Shredded. So much for hay storage.

Then I went up to see how the cows were doing as they were also hollering at us. Had to drag a few bales up the drive way and through the snow only to have them demolish the bales in 15 minutes. But at least they got quiet...until they decided they were thirsty and had to trek through the snow to the stream out back. Poor calves were hopping like frogs through the snow, but they made it there and back! Big G ended up going to the farmer's across town and getting 2 round bales for them later on in the day.

Then I got a text from a woman who gets eggs from me. Her sister has a goat - a 4 yr old pygmy cross doe - who lost her wether friend not too long ago and is really lonely. Their fencing is ruined and the doe stays on their deck so she asked me if I could take her. Problem is this goat has horns. I said I'd give her a try and if she doesn't work out with my goats I'll either help rehome her or keep her until the sister repairs the fence and gets another friend for her. They're supposed to bring her over this weekend...haven't told Big G yet...he has to work Sat and Sun so I'm going to do the 'what - she's been here for weeks and you haven't ever noticed?' trick and see if it works ;)

No school for little g today - it was a scheduled off day due to teacher conferences or something like that. AM kindergarten was supposed to go yesterday and PM today. Guess he got lucky! So he's happy that he can just hang out at daycare all day.

If the goat does seem to work out, you can band the horns. My alpine still has her horns and we are definitely banding them after she kids. I should have done it last fall but you know how that goes. She does use them once in a while on the other goats but generally she is good about it. She has never used her horns on me but I have accidentally been in the way and gotten hit with her horns.

We almost put up a tarp shed for hay storage too. I'm sure we would have lost it by now. So we're still buying a dozen bales at a time and keeping the in the garden shed. We'll have to consider building something this spring so we've got better storage next year.

Hmmm....I swear I posted a while ago! I wonder where it went....

Well, anyway - I was going to say I hope she does work out. I don't mind giving her a place to be, even if it is for now. I thought about banding - I can hunt, kill, gut, skin, bandage, disinfect, inspect, give shots, deal with nasties, etc but for the life of me can't see me banding horns. I'm not sure why, I just can't. Something about holding them and using a dremmel type thing to make a notch then putting the castrating bands on gets to me. :sick

I can always try the tennis ball method if it gets bad!

We're just going to buy a new tarp for the shed. The frame is still good, but we bought the whole thing used so it was worn in some places to begin with.

And - Howdy back atcha BB!!

And I have a tarp shed up, been up for a few years now. I have had to replace the cover, but that's it. And, I knew the cover was starting to go b4 it went, so I didn't lose any hay.

Ugh. I'm sore & so tired of this crap.

Had to dig out a path around the green tarp shed on Saturday so I could put a temporary tarp over the top and tie down with cinderblocks. There were points around the shed where the snow was literally up to my head. Then I had to get up on a 6ft ladder trying to balance a 20x30 tarp and get it on. Have I ever mentioned I DO NOT LIKE HEIGHTS? All the while I had let the goats out to roam and they managed to love up on the round bale Big G left out in the driveway to give to the cows. Now there's hay all over the ground from where they wasted. Heh - serves him right for putting it right in my way!

I wonder if I could put an ad up on craigslist or freecycle -

FREE!!

Free exercise given here. All the exercise you want! Comes with shovel - heck I'll even throw in the snow pants, gloves, hat and coat! Just come shovel off the roof, deck, and animal pens. ALL FOR FREE.

Think anyone would go for it?
