Don't worry too much, Jav....they're having to go in, which seems to be usual for them and I'm not sure why. She's not really in labor but the gal keeps "investigating" for one reason or another. Of course, we are not there and cannot hear anything so it may be that something's off and we can't tell.

How'd what go? Milking?

Oh, honey, I'm still a viable part of the "corporate world" therefore milk once a day in the evenings because there ain't no way I'm getting up before the sun does.

See diary entry day 2 for clarification (AKA post # 608). ;)

ah yes... the corporate monkey among us...
;-)

so

i was thinking about it and one of the other ways someone explained how to milk was to

"fill the balloon, hold it, and then squeeze"

meaning let her teat (snort) fill, pinch, pause, then squeeze out.

i just know you'll get it figured out. once you do it will be completely natural.

ps Nibbles wants her celly back she needs to update her FB. i told her no.

I have been milking once a day at 10:00. However I am unsure what I'll do when the kids leave.

Ginger will still have her daughter here, so I suspect it will continue to nurse. So I'm thinking I can just continue to milk Ginger once a day until she dries off. I don't really have a way to block one baby off to herself here, she would be awful lonely.

Molly, however, will have no kid. Do you think it would work to milk her twice a day at 10:00 and then at like 7:00? Or should I try to bump up the early milking to 9:00? Yawn.

I'd like to get as much milk as possible and Molly is much easier to milk.

When you milk twice a day do you split their grain ration in half? I would have to milk much faster if I do that! yikes.

A little guidance here about what my plan should be would be helpful.

OFG - I know that baloon theory all too well. Eloise sure helped me with that one as she's got the bigguns I miss so much. Sadly, she thought the two boys I offered her weren't good enough so I had to bring her to another boy that didn't suit her fancy on the first try so I tried to offer him again in late Jan. Guess I'll see by June if she decided he was good enough to produce offspring with and until then I'll just dream of big baloons....

Poor lil Fudge has got them FF teats that are sorta like those balloons the clowns use when making things for kids. They don't really get wide, or long for that matter, but they're still workable!

SD - you've got to do what's best for you. It's BEST to milk 12 hours apart, but if that can't happen, try as best as you can to get there. Some people do 10 hours, some do 14 hours apart....all depends on you.

You can even keep her to once a day milking, if that suits you too. The downside to either of these is that her production will never reach the full capacity - but if your goal isn't to see how much you can get in one day, then why bother?

you are KIDDING? hum... we'll there you go.

SD - what she said... as long as you stick to a schedule you'll get good results. the pro's will quote you chapter and verse about exactly 12 hrs and dont be late by 15 minutes or your goat will blow apart. but really - its whatever works for you.

once a day will get you less milk but so what if it works for you.

Nope, not KIDDING...and neither is she.

I was gonna throw in the towel on her after the first re-attempt in January, but since the 3rd boy I was offering to Her Majesty lives only through the woods all I had to do was walk her on over and give her a permission slip to stay the weekend.

Maybe Eloise needs to spend more time talking to Nibbles. I hear she's not choosy. :D whoops, did I say that out loud?
